Nah, it's 19+ becuase alcohol is permitted, so they always card everyone, unfourtunately. Most of the time shows permit alcohol in a specified location in the venue and have it all ages, but sometimes they do this :\. I don't know why, either, there's usually a lot of high schoolers who listen to this type of music, so it seems odd.

Man, this sucks. The PB&J show was 19+, and so my friends and I embarked on a journey to find another artist -- finally hitting Cat Power, and, as SOON as we decide to go out and get tickets, I check the newspaper and realize that it, too, is 19+ :( I see that you're going to see Caribou... I saw a recent listing for him, hopefully this isn't 19+ :P I just don't want to spend $40 on fake ID, haha

Hah, so Feist is getting rich, rich, rich off of other people! I just finished all my University applications-- I'm applying to some courses required for dentistry school and political science as a backup. I should be fine! Hm, I see you've been listening to Animal Collective, the few times I heard it it didn't really sound all that grand, am I missing something...should I be giving them another c

Ooh, Grizzly Bear was on my list of bands that I was to download.. Also, I bought a New Buffalo CD for $7, I just found out she's the one who originally wrote 1234! So how was your New Years? I went downtown and saw the celebration, I had a good time with friends but the music was terrible :P (Everyone went crazy for Plain White T's & some rap), a shame since Toronto has to much to choose from

Yeah, Rolling Stone is a pretty terrible conformist/mainstream magazine, so I was surprised so see all those bands listed there! By the way, I just picked up One Hundred Years of Solitude! I was pretty lucky; it was one of the choices for a novel project in English class, so I'm going to read it over this break :D Any plans?

Haha yeah, I have some strange fanaticism to continuosly download and discover new music when I have already a great heap to go through! I'm quite surprised, by the way, that Rolling Stone magazine had a pretty good article on indie music, they have many of the artists you enjoy, and they even included post-rock, something I would have never foresaw appearing in such a brand-name magazine!

FUCK. Oh my god. Mars Volta tickets were sold 32 seconds after they were put on sale. This is bullshit :((. People are selling tickets for $100 on ebay, when they themselves have purchased them for 35... I've waited so long for them to come!! I swear, they ebtter make another show under pressure from fans!
操作

Yeah, there was. I think his name was Andrew Whitman, but I don't quite recall -- I didn't like the voice so I didn't bother rememebering. Now I'm probably going to buy PB&J tickets for sure for Jan. 22! Hopefully it'll be good :D On a sidenote, I found an old (May 2007) Arcade Fire ticket in a Chuck Palanhiuk book in the library today.

Dude. BSS was fucking amazing! It was a floored venue and my friends and I got up to the second and third rows! Here's proof of the proximity: http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v171/147/50/518545533/n518545533_1865627_7697.jpg It was so good! Lots of hallucinogens were dispersed amongst the crowd which the security guards did nothing about.

Woo, I'm gonna see Broken Social Scene on Saturday!! Feist is in Toronto that day so there's a chance she'll make an unannounced appearance which is very cool. Also, I saw tickets for Peter, Bjorn and John up for 18 bucks coming in the near future, are they any good live/is it worth it?

Woo, I can't believe I haven't checked out Peter Bjorn and John earlier! Good stuff :D Gotta listen to Besnard Lakes, too. I hate trying to describe my music taste/bands I like to people in my school. I just get weird looks as virtually no one listens outside of the mainstream norm :(

Yo La Tengo is freakin' awesome man! Thanks for the reccomendation :D Yeah, actually a lot of American music here overs up all the good stuff, but it's good to know there's places like the library which try to put effort into making our local music heard! It really is amazing. I've been going on a giant downloading spree, I have so much to still listen to!
操作
-
PandaWine
Bah, haven't checked this in a while! I just got a little pamphlet from the library which features Local Music Artists which is pretty much anyone from Toronto that are now available in the library, and a lot of bands you listen to are on there! Like Caribou, Final Fantasy, DMST, Feist, Broken Social Scene, etc. I'm going to go on a spree and download some I've never heard of :D

Oh my God :| My internet got suspened for a couple of days becuase apparently it was being used as a host to send out spam messages (300,000 per second), so I just finished reformatting and am still installing all my stuff back. Crap. I lost a shitload of music due to one really stupid mistake :\ Sigh, time to redownload... And no, haven't started applying yet!

Argh :( You ought to slap those bookstore shopkeepers! Go to that stars concert anyway! Sure, you'll be awfully tired in school but it's an opportunity that's worth it :D I don't know how your school system works, but we're semestered...and our midterms are coming up soon! I'm hoping to do okay (especially math, or else I'm royally screwed).

Ahh yes, I forgot almost everyone in the states uses AIM. Everyone here uses MSN (I like it better, too) Everyone here also uses Facebook (not myspace). Aghh! How could Lolita NOT be sold there?! WHen I walk into any major bookstore here (Indigo's/Chapters'Coles) there's usually a 'classics' section and I almost always see it there :P Any plans for halloween? I'm carving pumpkins tomorrow!

Yeah, recovery is indeed great :D Ha, Jason Schwartzman?! That's freakin' awesome! (Admittedly, I had to Wiki him). Did he say anything to you? Yeah, it's getting pretty cold here, too. I've been wearing a jacket for about half a month or so now! I ve recently abandoned the evil that is MSN, and now I have a ton of spare time -- time to improve my guitar playing/read more!

Sounds pretty cool! I read up the Wiki entry on it -- I'll have to get it after I read the books I already have out :) I highly recommend Lolita by the way, it's definitely the best book I've ever read...the language in it is amazing and the story itself is superb. I just came back from a party last night -- so much for I won't drink. Oh well, looks like I have a very high tolerance.
操作
-
PandaWine
No, I have not, but I have heard of it! How strongly do you recommend it? Should I read it soon? I'm currently reading Fight Club -- it's really good, but not as interesting if you've already seen the movie. I'm getting another book by the same author, which should also be nice, and a Doestoevsky novel (The Brothers Karamazov). If you haven't already, read Lolita. It's amazing.

Heh, I was thinking the exact same thing! I'm in desperate need of some good indie music! In fact, I liked the last few suggestions you have given me very much :) I'm not sure if I have anything new from what I've acquired that you'd like -- maybe check out Ted Leo & The Pharmacists? (The album: The Tyranny of Distance)

It's sad how many Americans don't know of their own politics :( I used to follow them through CNN, but pretty much given up and watch the BBC now (a lot more interesting). Also, concerning Ron Paul, here are a few quotes/articles I found about him: http://pastebin.ca/715196 If this is the case, how can ANYONE seriously vote for him?
操作
-
PandaWine
Heh, it seems to me like all the mainstream or leading politicians are virtually the same... It amazes me that there are still people who are supporting Ron Paul, but I'm guessing that's pretty much all the rednecks/Southern states? I mean... after seeing the kind of things he was saying, it's extraordinary people are voting for him.
操作

PandaWine
Hooray! Thanks a lot :)It sounds okay right now, but it usually takes me multiple listens to like a song. I don't know if I've asked this before, but who are you voting for? (Assuming you'll be 18 by the elections). I'm not sure what to say of the movie; I liked a majority of it, but the trippy psychadelic portions of the movie didn't interest me, they were a ripoff from the old movies

Heh, each of our periods are that long, so lunch is basically another period...we have 4 classes per day (we're semestered), so that may account for something. Also yes, I can't skip classes this year and I have to do very well, sucks, doesn't it? :( Anyway, looks like the Canadian dollar is surpassing the USD! Very fast too. It's making huge headlines here in Canada.
操作
-
PandaWine
Yep, celcius. Sorry, I don't know anything about Farenheit, you Americans should switch to metric! Yeah, our lunch is about an hour and 20 minutes long, and you can go wherever you want so long as you get back to class on time (or you can go straight home if you have a spare period). I'm guessing that's pretty similar to the American system?
操作

Heh, I don't think I've ever heard of Amelie...I'll have to watch it! Yeah. The weather here is pretty weird. The mornings are usually really cold (around 7 degrees) while the afternoons rise up to 25+ degrees..and the fact that my friends and I play ultimate frizbee during lunchtime doesn't help either! We're always really hot becuase of it, it'd be great to have some AUTUMN weather. :)

Yeah, American Beauty was amazing. Well, there's the International Film Festival, and the Toronto Film Festival (I'm not sure if there is a difference), but I've never gone to one. I probably should. But last time there was a line spanning what looked to be a mile! Definately wouldn't have been able to get any tickets. Anyway, what are your favorite movies?
操作
-
PandaWine
I just listened to Arcade Fire again and they're not as bad as I remember them to be. I'll try to listen more! Nope, I haven't read any Bukowski, never really thought about it! Ahh favorite movie That's a tough one. I have a lot I really like: Spun, American Beauty -- I haven't really thought about a favorite. Ugh I'll get back to you on that (I don't even remember what I've watched)

Heh, I like some arcade fire songs, but I cannot stand too much at once. It's pretty much wialing over a snare drum :P Yeah, I love reading :) I'm trying to read some classics (War & Peace, Lolita, The Brothers Karamazov), and contemporary, too (Clockwork Orange, Chuck Palanhiuk, etc), and recently finished 2 Atheism books (God Delusion & god is not Great). And I have quite a long list to finish!

Heh yeah. I think the Canadian dollar is at like 96 cents US..so we convert to American and then to Russian, which is 25 (also, 1 Euro = 34 russian rubles). But yeah, it's awesome becuase everything is so cheap! :D Actually, in Canada,we have Universities AND colleges. Colleges are more 'hands on' and get bad jobs, while uni is theoretical and gets you good jobs!
操作
-
PandaWine
Yep it does. 1 US dollar = 25 rubles (You can buy a Snickers for like 8 rubles). Heh, I'm going to be doing part of the layout for our school's yearbook, as well as some other afterschool activities, it's fun but messed with all your time :D I can't wait to live on my own in University!

Heh, I bought a bunch of CDs in Russia! It's awesome, fully liscenced CDs are less than 5 bucks there! I'm seriously falling in love with the White Rabbits, thanks for them again :D Anyway, school is eating up my free time with homework (I still listen to music, though), how've you been?
