huh, rip. subtly jealous too. anonymity is getting old, but there's nothing especially great about separating too.

The problem I seem to have with a lot of classical (this extends to other genres as well) is the whole "aura" thing (I tried to describe it in my sidebar) which is why I'm attracted to composers like Oliveros, Radigue, Scelsi, Feldman, etc because generally their work is very immersive.

"I also listened to Lady Sovereign and Tom Waits obsessively." ha i find that incredibly amusing. And interesting to hear what you were into back then. I remember my first time hearing artists like Lustmord and Swans and being scared and confused ha. And ah that makes sense re: the whole social vs alone thing. It's funny because I used to not like much pop music, or admit to liking any either, but now I love it! It's also just nice being able to talk with people about music, and pop music is something that most people seem to be willing to talk about (and a lot of people seem to really enjoy conversations about it that go deeper than just "oh yeah, it's catchy"). Hope you like the new Ullmann! By the way -- what are you studying?

What music did you listen to before you got into modern classical? Also, how often do you listen to pop music? I appreciate the bits of pop music you've rated on RYM :3

If you are still interested in Gamelan (you better be) you should very definitely download the Hommage a Wayan Lotring and Java Pays Sunda albums here. aaseance.blog//spot.///com.///tau/2013/02/ocora-ra////dio-francetwo.html They are two of the best gamelan albums I've ever heard. Plenty of other great stuff in this post and on that blog.

I met Michael Pisaro this weekend, and got a copy of his new, yet to be released, album. I'll upload it when I get a chance.
