Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely

I can comfortably say this song is one of (if not the) only songs I can listen to regularly – in a normal state of mind – and enjoy, while at the same time being 100% convinced that, were I to ever decide to off myself (I won't), it would be the soundtrack to that event.

Related note: Kid A? Easily my favorite Radiohead album. It's not even a close race.

Seasoned Yeah Yeah Yeahs fans are probably already familiar with the outfit's trio of EPs - self titled, Gold Lion, and Is Is EP. I've always liked their sound, but have only just recently delved past the full-lengths into this stuff, and the latter has quickly become a favorite. Karen O's traditionally bratty vocals are harnessed into something much more frenetically sexy - more minor key tonality? A pervasive Interpol-esque drone? I can't quite put a finger on it, but this little 5-song EP is distinctly more moody than anything else in the band's catalog. Delicious.

I hated - really, really hated - Wavves' previous album. I'm all for distorted, fuzzy, grungy lo-fi, but for some reason, the only emotion it gave me was somewhere between 'headache' and 'abject hatred'. The new one is pretty stellar, though. There's a beachy pop sensibility and plenty of catchy little melodies that place it comfortably in this season's crop of chillwave wonders. Nice job, guys.

I believe, a few entries back, I bitched about all of the xx's California shows being sold out and how they'd never come to Vegas. Some of this is still true, some is not. They will still (presumably) never come here because Vegas lacks appreciation for such awesomeness. BUT! A show in September at the Hollywood Palladium went onsale today and I was all over it.

JACKPOT.

You know, the XX would have 5 (FIVE!!) completely sold-out shows in the coastal California area in a couple weeks. Do you know why this is? This is because they're a fantastic and hugely promising band with the best debut album of last year (and one of the best overall), because LA has a huge population of indie-minded folks (I won't say hipsters, because that leaves a negative taste in my mouth or on my keyboard or whatever), and because LA gets every single awesome band every time they tour the US. Along with Saves the Day, the Get Up Kids, Brand New, and Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World was one of my formative bands through high school.
