I'm still buying music, too...my friends now look at me like I'm stupid until Spotify/Apple doesn't have something they want to listen to, and I own it

i've been into the mothers against noise guys. they keep trying alternate histories for the way dubstep could have gone. not always the same, which is part of what i like about it. at first i didn't see what the big deal about hurtdeer was. i thought junta was just ok. after hearing eros junkyard (check out antilove) and meraki i'm hooked. just picked up his ep ghost bogun that came out yesterday. a lot of it is name your price on bandcamp. also it's no longer new, but you should check out opti's album the letter d (free on acroplane) if you haven't.

i had not checked out Raime or Andy Stott. it bugged me when mainstream dubstep devolved into mainstream rave music, but somehow circling back to gyral era scorn doesn't bother me at all. specking of scorn, there is a fair amount on spotify. i hadn't ever picked up governor or blan b. after listening to them through, i think i should.

there's a lot to appreciate in the new last step. i have to be in the right mood to be get the full effect. i'll need several more listens before i can form any solid thoughts about sleep. i have to admire his work ethic. it reminds me of studio painting the way mr. funk explores the depth of a concept for idea generation to see when the ideas he ends up with are good. btw, thanks for your post. i'd have missed this if you hadn't pointed me to it.

thanks for the snares tip. the way he describes "tracks from my collection" makes me wonder when these were actually made. they sound post detrimentalist to me, so i guess they're recent. it's just really odd wording. the reduced output makes me wonder if he's being like RDJ as the tuss and releasing things under other names, just without getting caught. maybe he's just not releasing. it's tough to imagine he's not producing much, but not tough to imagine he's just not sharing much.

am i totally off, or are some of the guys on this comp on to something? http://brokenbubble.bandcamp.com/album/we-can-build-you. related music: i dig the acid/dub of wagawaga's hypertypewriter album (acroplane for cash). the mothers against noise collective interests me these days too. just found out that the twenty/twelve netlabel putting some of their stuff out is here in columbus. anyway, take care.

hey man. good to hear from you. if the sampler indicates honestly, your hopes for some decent releases this year shouldn't be disappointed. from the sound of the boxcutter track, it sounds like further exploration along the lines of "a familiar sound."thanks for the heads up. i haven't gotten a whole lot of stuff recently, partly due to cash flow and partly due to re-ripping my CD collection and remembering some stuff that sat there for a while unheard.

hey bro...you need to check out [artist]Iroha[/artist]...they're the best Jesu clone ever...normally i wouldn't be too happy with that, but considering that the members of Iroha used to be in Jesu and Final, i'm ok with it...as far as I know, they only have an ep out right now with Fragment....the album is scheduled for later this year

i totally dig the new release from wagawaga. it's jazzier rather than standard current funky variations of (post?) dubstep. after just one listen through, i already think he's grown a lot since his first release. good use of tempo and mood change even within the same track. http://www.acroplane.co.uk/node/692

based on some of your recent tunes, you may also want to check out Deadbolt, if you haven't already

for your Halloween tunes, I recommend "Surfin' Dead" and "Zombie Dance" both by The Cramps. also, try "Halloween" by Siouxsie and The Banshees.

check out Depth Charge when you get a chance. his albums, Nine Deadly Venoms, Lust and Lust 2 are essential.

yeah, "moonglow" is definitely solid. i think i like "this bitter earth" even more. it kind of surprises me i don't enjoy/listen to huge chrome... more because i really like all of the releases that surround it. i understand about vinyl. i keep thinking i'm finished and then getting more of it here and there. when i was in portland & seattle a couple weeks ago i only had a chance to stop in one record store, and the only thing i managed to find was vinyl. it was a quoit/subm3rg3d collaboration 12". i was happy it made it back through the flight ok. after almost giving up and ordering the physical release, i just now saw that the miss balaton 12" is finally available digitally at amazon. so i picked it up to have the b-side of "ccuk." looks like scorn also has a 12" "gravel bed" out last month, but i'm hoping that one will show up digitally somewhere.

it seems a lot of what got lumped into dubstep was really more about wobbly bass than dub in the general sense. i must say though that every time i listen to milanese i like it a little bit more. he's got some ridiculous songs (see "caramel fixup" and "peggy land" on http://milanese.co.uk/ - i wish i could remember where i got "b sharpa damacy") even though it's usually pretty heavy. i haven't had the time to catch up with what's hot right now. i'm old and out of touch. you're right about tino. wicked insane evil dub always satisfies.

nice...i was wondering if there was going to be a Japanese version. i'm still waiting on HydraHead to reissue the 2 disc version of the "Heart Ache" EP

nice...i have never been to the legendary Amoeba, but i have a friend who recently moved to SF, so now i have a reason to go. i'm terrified of going though, as i think i'll leave that store in massive debt and unable to pay my rent. it's a sacrifice i'll gladly make for music.

the funkiness of the "familiar sound" 12" made me think the whole album would be more like that. then i made the mistake of listening to samples before it came out. i expected separate pieces. i can see why he went the direction he did. the biggest crit he got on glyphic was that it was a collection of singles instead of a cohesive album. i think he wanted to prove he could make an album in the classic sense and keep his voice distinct. my favorite track is actually a remix, but if you check out the led piperz version of "otherside" (http://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/347042-01.htm) i think it's different enough, especially for dj/producer music. makes me think of "remind" by orbital that was really an instrumental version of their remix of meat beat's "mindstream." speaking of meat beat, i saw eccentric objects on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=310142058570. out of my budget, didn't know if you wanted it.

took me a while to get into the latest boxcutter. at first i felt like the songs just stopped as they were getting going. since then it's grown on me quite a bit. i think it was a case of expectations. looking at your page now, it seems you're enjoying it quite a bit as well. in other news i finally got the latest few pieces from kid606. die soundboy die and kill soundboy kill are much slower than his usual stuff. the latest full length touches base with those slower eps, but sounds a lot more like other 606 stuff.

have you heard the new Skull Disco comp? i don't know anyone who has, so i'm unsure if i want to drop some cash for the import. BTW, check out Zomby's album, if you haven't already. it's a crazy mix of dubstep and 92' era hardcore...worth checking out!

i might have to pick up that Ragga Twins comp. i have some of their tracks on some SUAD comps i bought a few years back. Soul Jazz has been putting out some fantastic albums and comps lately.
