Dilemma

Being on any gig I become to stand in face of choice either to share the energy, catching expression of performers’ faces and being involved in that rock stuff or to have good sound. And it’s a hard dilemma for me.

It is so because sound engineer of the event and its mixer are usually being located at the end of active venue’s zone. So he sets up the sound, obviously, at his position which causes sound to be most pretty at areas nearby.

How it’s been

That day, as I told earlier, wasn’t a warm one and fortunately, or maybe by a strong administrative consequence, people were allowed to enter an hour and half earlier the actual time. This means technical staff hurried a lot to match on time. But anyway up to the lights off there were drinking people out of club who were, I think, not very pleased with alcohol pricing in.

Kind of event

So it’s the second great gig in this city, ever. The scenario is rather made up. The major band of your school time gets reunited after 4-year long split and performs in your very local place. Pretty well, yeah? ;) From that time remarkable thing is Don't Give Me Names and its Enhanced CD with a macromedia-app of band pictures, lyrics and so. That was a high-tech Guano Apes thingy.

Also notable they’ve accented even beats at improvisation parts. Yeah, true German blues-band ;)

Since I’ve found two progressive metal bands which do remind me Tool in vocal manner – Rishloo – the dynamics and accents are rather noticeable, and Karnivool in some time signatures manner and guitar sound in common, this question bothers me. Do they have double O in names due to the respect to their major influence? ;)

Also many people notice the similarity at tracks’ shout-boxes of those bands. And admitting this, doesn’t mean it’s a theft or something. Tool is incredibly overwhelming act of riding a spiral of musical evolution. So it’s really pleasant for me to hear these…

First of all – band cannot tour with incomplete line-up, definitely. Recorded parts are bullshit. Its nonsense and disrespect to fans and eventual listeners. Even if band’s member is sick or just out why don’t find a temporary replacement? And this kind of fault is not about stolen riff from Marilyn Manson. It’s much worse.

All the rhythm section has been recorded. Though even in this case bass sounded suck. What a poor gear? Also frontman had an addition drumset but it’s a damn dumb. Crashes seems were off but he stuck…
