Once again, starting from the bottom…

10. Steel Pulse (no previous chart position). I'm a fan of their upbeat reggae. The rhythms incorporate a lot of diverse influences. My favorite tunes are still:
Reggae Fever and
Ravers
Crank it waaaay up! Hardcore.

9. Grateful Dead (#1 last week) Quite a tumble from the top spot to almost out of the list, but they're always lingering somewhere in the top 20 for sure.

8. 10 Ft. Ganja Plant (no previous position) If you like roots reggae and dub, you'll like this band.…

I've been using iTunes(&iPod) and Windows Media Player AS plugins to add to my Last.fm profile for a little while. Its been really good to be able to listen to MY music collection and tag and look at listening stats.

But I also enjoy using Pandora, a service to discover new music. Pandora allows you to input an artist, album, or track name and it will attempt to play similar music based on a variety of musical characteristics. Pandora will keep playing songs, introducing some new and often good music along the way. Sometimes it picks well, sometimes not, but…

Alright, I've read a bunch of these, and felt like trying it myself.

10. Phish - I listened to a bunch of tracks from my favorite album by them, A Picture of Nectar and re-acquainted myself with it after not hearing it for a few years. I still love it!

9. Bob Marley & The Wailers - One of my top 2 favorites of all time. The only surprise is the fact that they're so low in the list. I can't pick out a particular album I listened to - they're all great.…

i prefer itunes for a few reasons:
1. ipod
2. simple interface
3. podcast GUI

i also use windows media player a bit on my mediacenter pc, and foobar a bit on my laptop.

I just picked up the new The Derek Trucks Band album "Songlines" today. It is sweet!

I've been a fan of Derek for at least 5 years now. I've seen his band live 3 times and him perform as part of the Allman Brothers Band twice. I really enjoy his slide work and his love of world music.

But, I gotta say, "Songlines" doesn't compare to "Live at Georgia Theater", IMO. Maybe its my love of extended jams and live music in general, but I think that recording really shines much more. Even the versions of the same tunes are…

I love the band moe. From what I can tell on Last.fm, they're not as popular as I would expect. You don't know what you're missing. moe. jams! They are undoubtedly one of the best live shows around, and I've seen a lot.

They've got their summer tour schedule out now and I can't wait to get tickets to the show in Boston. If you have a chance to check out a moe. show, or a few, do yourself a favor and go. You won't be sorry.

Midnite, the roots reggae band hailing from Barbados, recorded two of the the best reggae albums of all time. 'Ras Mek Peace' came out in 1999 and was recorded without the benefit of any effects. Because reverb and delay are so prevalent in reggae recordings, it sounded very different than typical studio tracks. They pull off a performance that is so stripped-down and raw in its intensity.
