Hands Down the shows of 2007 were highlighted by:

-The Ed Banger party in Vancouver in March. My first taste of Electronic music and will never turn back.
-Coachella 2007: The reunion of RATM, seeing Bjork, Arcade Fire for the 1st time and dancing to Justice again.
-Beastie Boys first ever Gala at the Crocodile Cafe with 300 people
-Snow Patrol and The Sounds in Germany was INSANE. Didnt know what to expect and was blown away!
-Daft Punk in LA was very fun, but CHICAGO BLEW THEM AWAY. This show probably ranks up with best shows ive ever seen along with RATMs reunion.
-Beastie Boys tour in August, 6 shows in 7 days. Hearing "its the new style" and "flutterman's rule"
-Seeing Korn in So Cal for the 1st time and being with Jenny.
-Seeing the Smashing Pumpkins, finally!!!! Amazing long set.
-Justice and Fools Gold all within a few days of each other? Need I Say more? Fuckin amazing. SOOO much energy.
-Matt Nathanson at the infamous Crocodile Cafe, meeting him, hearing an amazing set. So amazing. I love him.

Since you asked for this Cindy, I tried to come up with a list of my fav cds of 2007...Only realizing I had a hard time coming up with 20 artists who released new cds this year that I love. Alot of this list is filler and the top 10 are the ones who I really loved and deserve recognition.

1)Justice - † - One of the sickiest albums ever. These guys came into my life at full force and have put out some of the sickest music and beats Ive ever heard.
2)Matt Nathanson - Some Mad Hope - This cd is very solid, Matt can do no wrong. Its track after track of great songs with alot of passion.
3)Beastie Boys - The Mix Up - I love this cd, was definitly worth missing my flight over to hear it 1st with my peeps.

I had such a blast on my trip to Chicago and doin Lollapalooza. It was all new, and the weather was very hot on the 1st and 3rd day. the 2nd day was cloudy and rainy. I got there early on Friday and got as close as I could for Ghostland Observatory on the mainstage. They put on a great 1h set to open the weekend up. The beats were phatter than ever and the vocals were just as tight, and the lead singer really enjoys dancing, he is moving the whole show. I loved it even more than when I saw them at Sasquatch....perhaps thats cause this time around I didnt spend an entire song pissing into a beer can...

Next was the Polyphonic Spree on the other main stage about a 15min walk away from where I was at Ghostland. They put on a pretty good show, It wasnt as great as I remembered those 4 songs we heard at Sasquatch. They still had a few songs that really impressed me, they had costume changes and they all came out into the crowd, it was entertaining. They did a cover of Nirvana's Lithium and that was the turning point in their set that made the whole audience go off. Overall, it was fun and if I am at another festival where they are playing Id see them again, I dont think id pay to see them headline or anything though.

Now I was wanting to see M.I.A. but she wasnt on for another hour so I walked over to Against Me!'s set, I personally didnt like it. It really didnt fit in with the whole weekends vibe. I only watched them for about 30min at the most, and then i headed back to see MIA. The place was pretty packed, so I managed to get a good spot, the floor was on a hill so you could stand on the hill and see over everyone, it was perfect. I had high expectations for this show. She was definitly good. But she said she blew her voice in LA and was gonna try her hardest to perform. It wasnt as good as it could have been, but I enjoyed it. I need to see her when she is healthy.

I than started making my way over to the main stage to get a prime viewing area for Daft Punk, but in route stopped to catch Silversun Pickup's set.... i watched them from a distance while eating a hot dog and drinkin a diet pepsi... they def still sounded good, but i enjoy them in a small club as opposed to a big open festival such as this and Coachella.

So, luckily this wasnt Pearl Jam, and it wasnt packed yet. I got up about 4 rows from the barricade and just waited for Daft Punk. Everyone around me was doing the same, no one wanted to hear Satellite Party....They came on, and it was more of Perry doing his thing in a gay sorta way, and his wife sleezin with every other band member....the Janes Addiction songs they performed were the highlights of the set. "stop!, been caught stealing and Jane Says", the guitarrist for Porno for pyros came out aswell and performed the song Pets with the band. Overall, I was just waiting for it to end and get on with Daft Punk.

I was hoping to hear LCD Soundsystem from where I was at the mainstage, but the mainstage was playing Michael Jackson over the PA and you couldnt hear any LCD. Its ok, I had the best spot for Daft Punk EVER! You could feel the tension rising, this was gonna be one amazing show. They closed the curtains so you couldnt see the set up of the pyramid and such. To add to the excitment I saw Sebastian and Kavinsky walk by the rail and that got me really pumped. So i look back at the stage and this guy who i was chillin with waiting for DP said " there goes Busy P", and i looked and couldnt see him. I just missed him... but it was really exciting. Than the curtains drop and there are the robots standing on top of the pyramid ready to go....words cant explain how perfect this show was. They busted out new beats, and the whole pit where I was was jumping up and down nearly the whole entire time. I was going off, it was just the most incredible show you could see. The lights were mindblowing and the beats were sick as fuck. This show was 10x better than the show i saw in LA, thanks to the audience and new beats. Ive never had so much fun at a show before...other than the Hiro Ballroom. This show was the best of the entire weekend and would not be topped ever. Some bands came close,but nothing compairs to Daft Punk and their show. Its the whole package. The robots seemed really into it aswell, while they were mixin, everyone was just feelin it and one of the robots just starts pumpin his fist in the air, it was awesome. I need to see these guys again...Id recommend seeing them in NYC as they film their upcoming dvd ala AIFST, and skip out on the Beastie Boys show...

So, Im going to Lollapalooza, ill be in Chicago Aug 2nd - 11th I believe... Ive been trying to look at the festival timetable and pick who I can see, and who I cant... So far ive decided Im going to see these days:

Day 1: Daft Punk, Ghostland Observatory, The Polyphonic Spree, MIA, Silversun Pickups, G Love.,LCD Soundsystem

Day 2: Muse, Tokyo Police Club, Pete Yorn, Silverchair,Clay your hands say yeah,Snow patrol,
Patti Smith.

Day 3: Iggy Pop, Pearl Jam, !!!, Modest Mouse

Day 1: I enjoy all those bands ive picked, but there are a few gaps, during the day there is an hour slot with Electric Six and Against Me playing...Im not too sure if Ill catch either...but if i were to pick up, id probably pick Electric Six. MIA is playing 4:30 - 5:30, but Silversun Pickups are playing 5:00 - 6:00pm...so, should I just catch 2 1/2 sets, or stick with 1 band only? G Love and the special sauce and Blonde Redhead are both playing at 5:30pm, so, 3 1/2 sets? or catch a full MIA and then Glove? Aswell, Satellite Party and The Black Keys are both playing at 6:30 - 7:30...I havent picked whom to see yet. Ive seen Satellite before...but Ive also seen the Keys....there are alot of schedule conflicts...LCD soundsystem is playing 7:30 - 8:30...but Daft Punk start at 8:30, so id prob have to leave early, or miss their entire set to get a good place for Daft Punk... and doing so I have to miss Ben Harper, which sucks. But is definitly missable for Daft Punk. I saw Ben Harper do a 2h+ set at Sasquatch 06, which was very good, so I wont feel bad missing a 90min set.

Day 2: There arent too many conflicts for me...

Pete Yorn: 1:30 - 2:30...he is playing during Tapes n Tapes.

6:30pm - 7:30 Snow Patrol! These guys were fuckin excellent at the Hurricane Festival, I cant wait to see them again, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are playing during them, I have dont mind missing them, i dont know their music.

Now Day 3, im kinda MEH over... I wanna see those bands, and then there is the conflict of Amy Winehouse vs Lupe Fiasco....who should I see? I saw Lupe Fiasco at Coachella, and Amy might be interesting, I dont know her music well except for that 1 Rehab song.

Well, Im sorta finally starting to get into pattern of the real life again after such a week of fun and excitement. This week of excitement was my trip to Los Angeles and attending the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival. This years headliners for the festival was the ever so unique Bjork, the sock on my cock rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the recently reunited government hating, Rage Against The Machine. This weekend had 'amazing' written all over it. Rage Against The Machine have been one of my favourite bands for years, and finally being able to see them was a dream come true. This was to be their 1st show back in 7 years since breaking up, and I would be one of the lucky attendees to witness the historic event. But I would have to sit through 2 days of music and blistering sun before the day I got to see Rage happened. Arriving at the venue you got a feel for what you were instore for very early. A very hot weekend, the smell of horse manure and lots of people. I will try to keep this relativly short.

Friday April 27th 2007.

I remember getting to the doors and having to go through security to get in. I got a very thorough pat down. As i was turned around and had my "ass" grabbed as he was going for my wallet rather vigourously. That was alright, I made it in... after checking out the merch tent and getting 2 RATM shirts and having no luck finding an Ed Banger Tshirt, I walked around with my peeps to get a feel for the area. I caught a quick glimpse of the band Tokyo Police Club performing on stage, but there were many things to see in this small area of land. So we then went to over to the Coachella stage, which is the main stage that holds the most number of people and which arguably had the biggest names for the festival. The first set we really caught was former Jane's Addiction lead singer, Perry Farrell's new band called Satellite Party. They put on an entertaining set, but it was very visible they are still new and have not played many gigs together as they were often going over what song to play next and such. A highlight during their set was the cover of the Jane's Addiction song 'Stop', that seemed to get the audience into it, and myself aswell. Next up was a very fresh new band, Silversun Pickups. These guys have been building some hype for some while, while having appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Their set was composed of mostly songs off their only LP entitled, Carnavas. They played a very entertaining set for 50 minutes. The audience seemed to be more into this than Satellite Party as there were many more people watching aswell. Silversun's show at Coachella was very good, but I found it was a bit too rushed, like they were on a strict timeframe and had to get as many songs in as they could. I found their headlining show here in Vancouver a few weeks earlier much more entertaining as it was more personal and it felt like there was all the time in the world. After these sets me and my friends decided to hit up the beer garden, to enjoy some lovely and delicious beers. In the background it was very easy to hear the Arctic Moneys from the main stage. But beer felt like the better thing to pay attention to. Soon after the beers were quickly consumed, it was time to get in place to catch the ever so raunchy act of Peaches. Just to get us in the mood, Mr. Ron Jeremy came out and introduced Peaches as "The Lady Mac of Nasty Rap". She was excellent. A very energetic set while performing songs such as "Hit It Hard", "Hot Rod", "Shake Yer Dix" "Set It Off" and "Fuck The Pain Away". Up next was Jarvis Cocker, I know nothing about this artist really, so I must say I was falling asleep during his set, and waking up when nearly falling on people standing up. His inbetween song dialouge was hilarious and some of the songs i found entertaining, but I was too tired to fully enjoy it. So here is the setlist to compensate for a review:

Next up was the godfathers of Indie music, Sonic Youth. I dont know their music well, so Im just going to say that I really enjoyed it and found that they were real musicians and probably have some diverse music. Ill have to look into them some more, and seeing them in July will be good to get to know them better. Their setlist was:

Next, we went over to catch what we could of Bjork on the mainstage, we walked in during the song, All Is Full Of Love, and you could just tell she was on top of her game. Her voice was incredible and the music behind her was just as amazing. Her band included the "instrument" which is called a ReacTable which blew me away, as I have never seen one and did not fully understand how it worked, and would like to look into that more. Her set was mindblowing, and was just perfect! When Army of Me went of, I was going nuts in my head. It just sounded so perfect, and hearing the new track, Declare Independance and the electronic feel to it just really went off well. The setlist was:
