I've said in conversation many times over the past months that I can't think of a five-person band that was more talented man-for-man than The Band. I stand by that comment, and defy anyone to come up with a more talented Rock band, consisting of five members, who are/were as good as The Band on an individual basis. Every member of the Band played more than one instrument, they could all sing, and they all contributed in the songwriting. Their debut album is one of the most acclaimed and influential albums of its era. They are responsible for some of the truly great songs of the late 60's early 70's, and they put on, perhaps, the greatest one night show of all-time. If you don't know the concert I'm speaking of, go to the video store and rent "The Last Waltz". Actually, just go out to Best Buy and make the purchase. Its the concert documentary to end all concert documentaries…Martin Scorsese cuts concert footage with interviews of the Band…Here is a list of the performers that grace the stage along with The Band:
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison
Eric Clapton
Joni Mitchell
Neil Young
Muddy Waters
Ronnie Wood
Ringo Starr
Dr. John
Ronnie Hawkins
Plus recorded footage of The Band performing with Emmylou Harris and The Staple Singers
Its a truly fitting send off for one of the greatest bands of all-time.Up On Cripple Creek
