Leaving our house in Japan tomorrow morning, then on to Thailand, Vietnam, and ultimately back home to NZ some time in October. So this'll be my last nerding about on here for a while. Picked up another 5 or 6 CDs since my last "Something I picked up" entry too… ah well. Of those I'm most excited about Jodi Cave (duh, mentioned him in 2 other journals so far) and Lukid.

Group Five - Distant Stations (Angry Rabbit, 2007)

Landing - Passages Through (K Records, 2003)

Man, it's not often I buy the wrong damn CD. Dumbness. I'd been looking for Sphere and went to the glorious Warzawa in Shibuya, where everything's neatly sorted by label. (Trainspotters paradise, eh.) There, under K Records, was this one, which I bought without thinking much about it.

Anyway, it's pretty good. It's not amazing. I think I'll still by Sphere or maybe wait to get my hands on (off-shoot) Paper's As As.

Seaworthy - Map In Hand (12k, 2007)

Picked up the 12k reissue of this nice album from a Sydney album. Didn't know about them at all until I stumbled upon some comments from one of the group's members on last.fm. :) Nice.

It's pretty uncharacteristic for the 12k label, in that there's much more normal sounding guitar sounds all over it. There are no clicks, buzzing synth tones or semi-random sounding synthetic drum patterns. ;) The tracks are basically beatless post rock, very vaguely in the territory of early Labradford or something.
