Tue 17 Jun – Anaïs Mitchell, Antje Duvekot

This was my first time to see a show at The Blue Door and might I say that I enjoyed myself very much. The Blue is nice and quaint. Big enough to comfortably house the audience, yet small enough to feel like your are listening to the musicians in their living room.
Also it helped that I sat right in front of the stage.

Anaïs Mitchell & Antje Duvekot started out singing together (with beautiful harmony) a song that I don't know, but was beautiful none the less. Antje sang songs that were mostly from her upcoming album, but also a few from Big Dream Boulevard as well a beautiful duet with Anaïs Mitchell on Famous Blue Raincoat.
Anaïs came on and started out with Your Fonder Heart (again, perfect harmony) and sang a few more with Antje before she showed off some songs from her recent musical-theatre production Hadestown which were really amazing and made wish I could have seen it when it was running. She also did a great AJ Roach cover that evoked several "that was cool"'s from the audience. Anaïs sang a Egyptian folk song acapella and explained the story behind Before the Eyes of Storytelling Girls.
For the encore, both women sang a Irish folk song that neither were very sure when or where they had learned it.

This was a great show and I look forward to seeing both of these great singer-songwriters in the near future.
