Muse fans on last.fm and the new CD

An open letter to the Muse fans on last.fm.

What in the hell is wrong with you people?

It used to be that a discourse among you bunch was civilized and respectful, even when you all disagreed with each other.

All of sudden the band gets one of their songs on the sound track of a bad, but popular, vampire film, they release a CD that's apparently not up to some standards, and then you set yourselves upon each other like wolves at Armageddon.

Granted, Twilight ruined Supermassive Black Hole for me, as well (and I wasn't even a fan of it when it was first released, although it did grow on me after a few listens). However, I don't really see the point of getting on someone's case because they discovered your favorite band later than you did. Who is to say, in the end, who is the real fan and who isn't? At the end of the day, it's enthusiasm that counts.

Do I think The Resistance is their best CD? No. Do I think it's better than Black Holes and Revelations? Hell, yes. I'll even forgive them their Timbaland and Bon Jovi moments, as well as that rather dull first single of theirs (which, surprise surprise, is being played to death on American radio) to revel in the lunacy that is United States of Eurasia, the intensity of Unnatural Selection and MK Ultra, the music hall looniness of I Belong to You, and that awkward but ultimately gorgeous ExoGenesis "Symphony" tacked on at the end.

I can understand why some people are not into the new CD. Some of the lunacy does come off a little calculated. A lot of the lyrics leave a little to be desired. It also doesn't help matters that Glenn Beck likes them.

But still, people. Lighten up on each other. You're all good in the hood. :)
