I've given it two listens through already, and it's mostly what you'd expect from Jay-Z. The production is interesting because you can tell they are using a lot more live instruments instead of sampling them. Overall, its a pretty good record. Some of the songs kill, even on first listen, and a few songs are real duds. But, at 15 tracks, I expected a few clunkers. If you're a Jay-Z fan, you're going to at least like parts of this album; I imagine Pitchfork will give it something around a 6.5, and then everybody on Metacritic will be split about it. Either way, I think this album is going to be better than the Raekwon album which the Fork seems to be attempting to hype up. If you want, I can PM you the download link on MC for BP3.

I am enjoying it, but some of the initial luster has faded for me - I don't think the album will be making my top 20, but it would have to really fall in stature or a LOT of great albums would have to be released for it to fall out of my top 50 of the year. How are you liking the new Bibio? That's one of my favorite records of the year so far - I really enjoy records that explore a variety of styles. Also, I've heard only good things about that Megafaun album, but only from a limited number of sources (basically, it appears to be good, but might be a bit more niche and a little less universally hyped than I'd prefer). I haven't heard the record, and I'm not sure whether it's worth seeking out.

I really enjoy the new Wilco, it's one of my favorite albums of the year and will definitely earn itself a spot in my top 20 when list-making time comes around. Compared to the rest of their catalogue, my favorite Wilco album is Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, with a distant tie for second between Wilco (The Album) and Summerteeth. Some days I actually feel Wilco (The Album) is the second best of theirs; only time will tell if it stays as strong as Summerteeth. The other Wilco albums I've heard would rank: A Ghost Is Born, Sky Blue Sky, Being There, AM. I've never heard the work with Billy Bragg and what not, nor have I heard the Uncle Tupelo stuff. My favorite songs from the new album are definitely "One Wing," "I'll Fight," and "Everlasting Everything." Three amazing songs from a really warm and inviting record. It's a real grab-bag of everything good Wilco have done in their career, I think.

How you enjoying that Bat For Lashes album? It's a toss-up between that and MPP for album of the year for me - MPP has had the edge in recent weeks, since their live show was significantly better than BFL...though Natasha Khan is stunningly gorgeous.

My play count is from 3 years of non-stop listening to music, and I'm really anal about play-counts - even if I listen to something on vinyl, I up the playcount on my iTunes. It makes it all the more interesting to see what my top artists are. 2006 and 2007 were the year of the White Stripes for me - they were basically my favorite band for a LONG time - until I discovered the Hold Steady in the summer of 2007. Since then...well, you can see. I still love the Stripes, though - Elephant and White Blood Cells are likely to grab top 20 spots when I make my decade list. I love me some good guitar music, as you can tell. But, I also enjoy a good 3 am album, which the xx seems to be doing a good job at. I love the interplay between male and female vocals, with really bare instrumentation that still manages to sound like it could fill an entire room with atmosphere.

What's up PA - thanks for the add. Looks like you chart quite a bit of Sunset Rubdown; I never really cared for RSL, but I very much enjoy Dragonslayer. Have you heard the new album by the xx? Given what you listen to, I think you'll find it quite pleasant.
