Heima

Last night, a few of us were lucky enough to be invited to a screening of the new sigur rós film 'Heima' which was absolutely amazing.

This is a warning to the Icelandic tourist board… Expect a lot of visitors to Iceland next year as after watching this film I guarantee people will want to go! The film is about the tour of Iceland that sigur rós did after their world tour for the album 'takk'. It follows them as they play at remote venues such as old fishing buildings to their final gig at Reykjavík to 22,000 people (10% of the population).

Here comes the arty farty bit….

The cinematography of the film is amazing, with shots of the band playing these remote places interspersed with the Icelandic landscape in the surrounding area. The film is basically a tour documentary but it comes across as much more. You get more of an idea of how and why the band make the music they do and how down to earth they are compared to all the tight white jeans wearing, crack smoking, fame hungry, 80's rip off merchant bands coming out of the UK and US at the minute.

Basically this is a beautiful movie about the band with an (obviously) amazing soundtrack and if you can make it to a cinema to see it you get to hear it all loud and in surround sound :)

Now all I need is a floor to sleep on when I go to Iceland ;)
