If someone warns you of a great catastrophe to come you will either believe him and protect yourself or not. Same with God. You know what my beliefs are concerning afterlife and Hell, so "God rewards belief" means nothing to me. Nor does the "Anti-Pascal wager" since I strongly support the Christian lifestyle and I really enjoy it (I bet Dawkins didn't though). And you also know what I think about God's criteria concerning that final judgement, so "Correct god is worshipped" is out too. I'm 100% convinced that if our Creator (even if it's not the Christian one) is a fair judge and will excuse ignorance on most cases. Or he can bite my ass.

It may be fallacious on the first place, but the fact of taking chances are risking eternal life shows inexperience and immatureness, oder?

I'm with you then, science is a definite way to be sure about our world, provided we believe in universal truth and objective reality of course. Either ways, it's the only way to transfer knowledge and experience precisely. I will keep believing in God though, not only because I like it and I kinda feel it's true, but I won't take my chances if it turns out He exists. After all, there's nothing to lose!

Same with religious debates. They were more like wars though, now they're just debates. Are you saying that if we call all scientists at a debate, they will all have agreed in the end?
操作
-
the_gray_fox
One more thing... You said "we have absolutely no way of knowing what interpretation of all these metaphors...[etc., etc.]...the tens of thousands denominations in Christianity show this." while scientists seem to have created more "denominations" than Christianity and they keep up debating, almost every scientist has a different theory about the world. They sure agree on certain matters though, just like all Christians denominations agree that God exists, for example.

Hm, same here for certain atheists. Do you like anything from the Christian mythology?
操作

the_gray_fox
Then when be in a Christian forum and discuss about it? :s (That was the question I intended to ask from the beginning.)
操作

:P Don't get me wrong, but I couldn't resist. Very little of the Bible (ESPECIALLY Genesis and Apocalypse and afterlife matters) can be taken literaly!

Dear Waldheri, after reading your shout I got your point and realized my mistake. I do believe in Genesis now and I think that science is wrong. You're right, I have to accept the Bible the way it is. I called my grandfather and we will shortly begin our journey, looking for Jesus' flesh and blood, I always felt that the Euchary is wrong anyways. I'll be waiting by the sea, looking out for the beast. Pay me a visit if you need anything. P.S.: Excuse my typos, I did them because I couldn't see that good, since I pointed my eye out, because I thought of having sex with a woman I saw on MySpace.

*sigh* *facepalm* *headdesk* (This is what you get for saying this, I'm hurt.) In case you're not taking Genesis literaly on purpose right now, allow me to believe that you're ignorant on that matter. I found some Christians supporting science. In conclusion, Genesis is metaphorical (from my point of view).

What's the problem with Genesis? I don't see a difference between a scientific theory/fact and it.

Omnipresent. Omniscient. Invulnerable. Immortal. Always existed. Not material. It's acting 'behind the scenes', He's the real "boss" (:P) and what He decides becomes true in our world. We can't see Him or even find the slightest clue about Him in our material world of course. But He became a man once; Jesus Christ.
操作
-
the_gray_fox
Right. I think you're smart enough to get my question though, aren't you? This is just a casual question, I don't want an in-depth analysis. Do you think that the Bible/Christianity/Jesus Christ can ever be true?
操作
-
the_gray_fox
The Creation isn't a coincidence, an omnipresent and omniscient discarnate being did everything. That being sent a part of Him (the 1/3 :P) in Jesus. You know the rest... So, do you believe that -by any chance- this thing might ever be true?
操作
-
the_gray_fox
A clearlier question: do you think that there might be a chance for Jesus to be the embodied God-Creator that rose from the dead?

Don't get this wrong, but you look Dutchish in your new pic. :P Why not put the other one (black & white), I once accidentaly fell to YourSpace and saw it. ;-)

Those scientist/philosopher "eyes" in your about me are very interesting. Did you make them or find them somewhere?
操作

Thanks! Oh, that's just some funny-wanna-be "comic" I'm making, describing religions, philosophies etc., just for fun. I'm dividing them in strong/gnostic and weak/agnostic atheists later. ;-) I was not intended to be serious. :P

Empiricism is one scientific way. So I say no, science's ways are the best way -so far-. And of course there's always our Creator. IF any religion has mentioned the right one.

I don't like labels that much either... My question is: Do you believe that science -and only science- can lead us to the truth?

Oh well, now that you're asking: I lost my faith into the public german health system as soon as I had to suffer under it myself. The job itself still seems attracting to me, but I'm not as euphoric as before. Human biology seems great to me aswell, and I wouldn't need to learn to fletch my teeth though all of the idiots you've got to face. The older I get, the more I seem to recognize how bad I am in interacting with people I don't like. If it'll be medicine, I guess I'm going to choose pathology. :E

You really didn't get it?! If your real name was Waldo, then I guessed/vaticinated right, so I'm a fortune-teller. And thus I'll be making fortune cookies. Duh... :-)

Actually I read the Enuma Elish some time ago, and I was very intrigued about the Son of the Sun slaying Tiamat and such, so yeah. Mesopatamia was ahead of its time regarding the theistic city-state that was Babylon and all the history of those peoples. :) I figured I would take a less cliche god...instead of taking Thor, Loki, or any of the Norse gods... :)

Yeah, it has been a while! I'm doing alright, really really busy. Today is our first (and only?) snow day of the season, so I'm home doing things. You?

Oh good....listening to a lot of neofolk for some reason, and have been pretty mellow as a result :P Other than that, not too bad, work as usual, making people cry when I interrogate them for committing crimes :D Good times. I also work security at a topless bar :D

Yeah, I understand THAT, about taking it slow. What courses are you taking exams on? I'm not quite sure about the schedules for universities overseas, but is it the end of your semester or something? Either way, I'm sure you will do fine, you are probably one of the smartest guys that I have ever spoken with. Right up there with an officer that was on my submarine with me, who was leaving the Navy to get his doctorate in Physics, and he was getting his fellowship at an Ivy League school, University of Pennsylvania. So I'm not stressing it. But I'm sure the mathematics courses you are taking would make my brain hurt within 5 minutes :P
