Meshuggah are fucking awesome. I was introduced to them by a friend and I immediately liked their fucking mental, mathy complexity and all-out heaviness. At times it sounds like they rolled some dice to decide on which time signature to use. Anyway, why the surprise? I listen to a fair bit of black and progressive metal already :P

I know what you mean. In fact the kind of stuff he was actually spouting gave me the impression he had gotten it all out of a pamphlet or something. I didn't accuse him of that, of course, but the fact that he interpreted the red shift graph incorrectly gives me a feeling that he read this somewhere else, on some creationist website, and didn't bother to check it out. Once you explained it, it seemed so damn obvious. Of course everything is moving away from Earth! Everything is moving away from everything else! Thats why they call it expansion! Problem is, science is not even in the vicinity of my field, so when presented with an argument like that I have to concede that it at least appears authentic.

This may sound a little naïve to you, but WOW! I mean I could guess there was a way to work out blood flow, but it's not something I automatically associate an equation like that being applied to it. (excuse my poor use of maths terminology). I guess I tend to associate maths more with the other sciences than biology, along with mechanics, architecture, engineering etc.

Thanks dude, your post was very illuminating. I really cant argue when someone springs the complex studies on me, because nine times out of ten I really haven't a clue what the journal or article is on about, and I have to concede that at least that it *looks* authentic.

Not even the excitement of percentages. We just add up what goes out, and up what comes in and hope the 2nd figure is higher than the 1st. Not only does that equation (I presume equation is the correct term for it) look fun, it's also very pretty. People who know a lot more about myself (regarding maths) say logic is more my forte in that subject. I do like patterns. If we can get more organised (and therefore have more time) I'd like to make an effort to better myself at maths. Although finding it a daunting subject, I also find it a fascinating and beautiful subject. I should train my mind to forget daunting and concentrate on fascinating and beautiful. And anyway, what I've got to lose if I fail at not understanding it any better? Nothing. It would just be for fun. there's plenty of things I do for fun that I'm not very good at (dancing springs to mind). No reason not to do them in my opinion. Well unless your idea of fun is brain surgery :)

I remember doing binary at school and enjoying it. I felt like I de-coded something, or translated from one language to another. I also enjoyed algebra and ven diagrams. Sadly, due to lack of use, I understand very little of it now. I regret not taking more interest in maths as a child. The most maths I do these days is the accounts, and sadly I don't find that a great deal of fun - maybe a change of attitude about that is required. *hmm drifts off to find a more positive attitude about accounts*

People change. Maybe I didn't change. Maybe I did. Alright, we will probably get to see this in our next possible discussion, if ever. See ya.

Thanks for your comment! I was familiar with SYL beacuse they were supposed to be similar to Fear Factory, one of my fav bands, but never gave them a conscious listen before, I'm glad I did, they're awesome! And yes, I have a very eclectic musical taste, I think there are good things on almost every genre. Take care!

I can't remember which discussion thread it was on that we posted photos, but I'm fairly sure you posted one. You are standing up in perhaps a kitchen and you have long wavy hair (which also looks very lovely). I remember thinking then what lovely legs you've got. Very long and lean.

Noooo don't get me wrong. I used to have almost their entire discography (along with lots of other bands..) and then a few months ago I had to get a new computer and for some reason not all of my music was saved u__u And I'm not as obsessed with Epica anymore as my charts probably make you think >_>

Yeah well... they're there... somewhere. Someone once sent me a few Ulver tracks... I really can't remember anything about them. I notice you're on LibraryThing. I'll shout at you there shortly.
