It occurs to me that it may seem a tad morbid to blog twice in a week on the subject of musicians dying. However, since I have been known to enjoy the occasional opera, I feel sort of obliged to cover this particular piece of sad news: Luciano Pavarotti, arguably the greatest tenor of my time on this globe, has died at the age of 71. I never had a chance to see him live, but his performance of Nessun dorma in the opening ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin has stuck in my mind. It was a poignant event, even when experienced through my puny TV set, and the memory came back quite vivid when I heard of his death. The man who was famous for singing "let no one sleep" has bid the world goodnight.
