Today I saw that my random song selection had picked up two songs starting with the letter "N" in a row: Now! and Noise. Suddenly I was inspired… I created a 2-hour song list of songs with titles that start with the letter "N"! I've got New Kind Of Love and Never Surrender and Nothing But Love and No Doubt and Not Stand Silent… hey, that's the second Newsboys song so far! Maybe I should make a list with songs by artists that start with "N". Hmm…

I was just listening to Love in a Yielded Heart by Daniel Amos and came across the following lyric:

Well, Bob Dylan, he can't free you
And John Lennon can't see what's inside of you
And Alice Cooper can just freak you
He can't show you the way or lead you

Interesting that since 1976 or so when this lyric was written, two out of three of these artists have made Christian-themed albums (and of course, Lennon died four years later in 1980). It kind of takes a little bit of the wind out of the verse, doesn't it?…

Just sitting here listening to the new CD from Bo Bice (it's called See the Light and it seems to be only available at Wal-Mart, or in digital download form) and thinking about the post-American Idol successful (few that they are). Have you noticed that the ones that wind up on the Internet in photos of them on the toilet drunk, or showing body parts that shouldn't be shown in public, or even who come out as gay or whatever… those kids don't seem to ultimately do too well. My wife was watching American Idol the other night and Maroon 5 came on. I was struck with how much lead singer Adam Levine looks like David Byrne of Talking Heads fame. Illegitimate son, or long-lost brother? (Or odd co-inkydink?) You decide!

Is it sacrelicious to listen to a song called "Bat out of Hell" and then immediately listen to a song called "Lamb of God"? (That sometimes seems to be the way my life works.)

I just realized what kind of a fan I am. I am a fan of excellent music of any genre. However, I am only a fan of mediocre music in certain select genres (primarily rock & pop). For example, mediocre country music gives me a pain, but a mediocre pop song is tolerable. Truly terrible music of any genre is, of course, evil-and-must-be-destroyed.

I wonder if most people are like that?

Raising Sand by Robert Plant/Alison Krauss is the most interesting CD I've listened to in a long time. It's almost impossible to classify by type of music, although I suppose if it were going to fit in anywhere it would be on Country radio. Even there it would be strange, like a throwback to country music from the '50s or '60s rather than modern country. Maybe folk, but definitely NOT Alison's mainstay, bluegrass. But I am convinced that any music that comes out when Alison Krauss opens her mouth is going to be worth listening to.…

Hehe… I love the 60s! (I know it was released in 1971, but the song is so 60s that it counts!)

Now… why in the heck would I want to flush away a guy in shades? I can even hear the toilet flushing sound right in the music!

OK, so the intro to God of Wonders by II Guys From Petra always totally reminds me of The World I Know from Collective Soul. It's not in the same key and it sounds totally different, but it's the same speed and it's an acoustic guitar. So there.
