I'm doing pretty good I suppose. Its been a pretty uneventful summer for me though, unfortunately. Before I know it school will starting up again. Which is fine, but I wish I wouldn't taken a little more advantage of this time off. How about you man? Yeah, it's been a while since I last talked you. I noticed you were coming on here less too.

Okay, so as it turns out, "Love Never Felt So Good" wasn't really a song of the summer. lol

Same for me. LoveSexy is probably his best aged album but I don't listen often. Yeah I did :)

already heard "Love Never Felt So Good" used in a commercial. Could be a song of the summer.

Hmm. I listened to "Chicago" as well, which I thought was pretty bad, "Loving You" was okay. To me, in a way, there is something to be said for making Michael's music sound more modern. Michael, the quintessential pop artist that he was, was always changing his sound to match the times, so it's not totally inappropriate really that they'd try to do that here (though yes, it'd probably be better to hear a song in a familiar Michael Jackson form than some new one). You could definitely say that picking Timbo to do some work on this material sounded good on paper. I totally agree with what you said though about Reid and all that. Thankfully, "Love Never Felt So Good" seems like it'll be the most popular song from the album, so that might be a good thing for Michael's musical legacy. I could see that song building up in popularity, especially with all the Pharrell old school R&B type songs that have been hits recently. R&B has been making a bit of a comeback on the charts. Hell, I've...

Are you gonna check out that new Michael Jackson album? Usually I wouldn't bother with a posthumous record like that, but that "Love Never Felt So Good" song actually sounds pretty good. Also, Pitchfork is streaming the new Roots album, which sounds cool, though I'm not totally impressed. I figure you have some interest in that one as well.

Simultaneous masters? I don't know what your major entails but I'm sure it's interesting; the only subject that's ever managed to irritate me to aversion is economics, which could be and should've been interesting if it hadn't been appropriated by dogmatic idiots. I'm probably gonna go for a math major, love humanities but they're pleasure learning to me and I can't justify paying as much as I am for something that I feel like isn't self-expanding (I enjoy math just as much). I might have a friend in the next grand slam, so I might be just as excited as you are even though I'm generally out of the loop with sports.

Hey, man, it's been forever how's it going? We haven't talked in forever - I was writing an essay on lyricism in Rap, trying to enlighten the masses (in my class anyway) and I was beginning by writing about the artistic value and unmatched importance of "styles" in rap lyrics and I was reminded of you. What's up?

Yeah I agree none of the songs on Confessions would make my top 10 Madonna songs, or even 20 I think.

Interesting. Hmm for me it's probably Ray of Light > Bedtime Stories > Like a Prayer > True Blue > Confessions > Music (Underrated imo, 'I Deserve It' is one of her best songs) > Erotica (I agree about a few tracks dragging, I need some more listens though) > Madonna (Better than 'Like a Virgin', which is kinda overrated) > Hard Candy > Like a Virgin > MDNA > American Life. I haven't listened to I'm Breathless in a while gonna need a relisten. Why do you put Confessions so low? A bit overrated yeah, but it's top 5 at least imo.

my eyes also don't see no damn future hh classics dropping lately...& i'm still marinating on your utter thrashing of Rakim lmao, i can't even lie, i just don't like him. i get what and who he is and all that, just never ever reach for him. like, what is the scenario where one say's LETS LISTEN TO RAKIM. smoke sesh with old heads maybe? i have no clue..

We'll get both (hopefully) and I think he'll stay, at least for a couple of seasons. Personally I'd like to see a change though, it's going to happen eventually so why not sooner rather than later. Need a manager who can make those big decisions when it comes to big games and not someone who just sticks with the same tactics 100% of the time. Despite how much I dislike him, we need a Jose type of manager now to take the club forward

Yeh, it is kind of a dim period for me as Kylie devotee. There are some fantastic moments on KMO, the title track, "I Was Gonna Cancel," "If Only" & "Sleeping With the Enemy" are absolutely lovely. But this dumbing herself down after 20 years of fighting back against being "the Singing Budgie" (thanks to KM '94) here we are with "Sexercize". While it is not a "Hard Candy" disaster, the damage to her artistic and critical reputation is stunning. In regards to the JJ essay, thanks for reading & I am glad you've enjoyed it. I'll never enjoy AFY in the same way as DJ, it is an inferior album in terms of its structure and pedantic production pandering to a mainstream pop audience. There are some gems on it though. Love chatting w/ you about music.

It's not even like we played exceptionally well, or even dominated. Just tactically outplayed Everton. Honestly I don't care about the result vs Bayern but if you watched Tottenham vs Chelsea, Tottenham were terrible. Won't accept anything but a win next weekend.

all, but no, he doesn't do that at all and totally goes against the grain releasing a really subdued psychedelia-influenced album. I love when artists do that kind of thing, taking the liberty to make really self-indulgent albums after tremendous successes (similarly Stevie Wonder did this after Songs in the Key of Life). Even if they're imperfect albums, I find it interesting what realms a genius voyages into when not really trying to appeal to wide audience. I think I'd put it ATWIAD > Parade > Controversy personally. Parade is a bit sparser and it was interesting what he was doing as far as doing funk songs without using bass, but I kind of prefer the chill vibe ATWIAD has for the most part.... I haven't gotten to listening to any of his '90s work tbh. There's this one song I like though called "7" though, catchy and interesting content. His work post-80s seems to have some really interesting conceptual ideas, but from my impressions they aren't executed quite as well as his...

Yeah, I totally agree with what you said about Controversy, I always saw it as just the next logical progression, but considering its level of quality (which is lacking a bit) it seems a bit more like a stopgap. It does hold a significant place in Prince's discography I think though because like you said it basically expands his persona and makes him more than just a controversial guy who talks about sex. Controversy just broadens the scope of Dirty Mind, basically expanding the idea to more areas other than sex, the idea being the limits society puts on people and how free are we really to be ourselves (he kind of talks about that a bit on the song "Uptown" actually). I kind of like how self-aware he is on that album as well... I find ATWIAD and Parade though to be totally compelling parts of Prince's discography though because in no way are they next logical progressions. You'd figure after Purple Rain he'd continue doing more poppy, catchy music with the futuristic elements and...

How would you rank these albums from best to worst? Controversy, Around the World in a Day, and Parade. Those all seem to be the in between albums in Prince's 80's run that aren't mentioned nearly as much as Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, and Sign O' the Times. I don't think they're quite as good as those, but they're certainly very worthy albums to talk about and are some really interesting excursions in his discography.

I was overly confident going into the Liverpool game and after the result I'm now underly? confident of United. Although I wouldn't even care about the Bayern result if we batter United and Liverpool in our next two games. I think going out of the CL now would help us in the PL and FA Cup (which are far more winnable) rather than making the quaters or semis of the CL.

To see us concede twice from set pieces within 10 minutes was shocking, especially considering we've been so solid at the back recently. Thought Wenger would've realised that he should start Gibbs in big games rather than Monreal after the 6-3 match. Also this game shows that 1 - we are really missing Ramsey, a complete box to box midfielder who puts in work defensively but can also change the game and 2 - we need to start looking for an Arteta replacement fast, his lack of pace is really becoming an issue. Also considering we didn't exactly bounce back after the 6-3 to City, I'm fearing the worst against United. Based on how poorly they're playing though, anything less than a win would be humiliating

Yeah, that string of albums is as good as any I've ever heard. It's kind of funny that you'd start with those artists in the soul genre haha. I haven't heard of anyone starting there, that's cool though. You should listen to Innervisions, Talking Book, and Songs in the Key of Life first. I think you'll like them, even if they have to grow on you. Stevie has a very charismatic quality about him that's pretty evident in his music. I don't know how to describe it exactly, but he this uncommon sincerity that's matched with this unfailing optimism in his music that you just don't come by everyday. Anyway, I'd like to know your thoughts and stuff, whenever you get to listening to those or whatever ('cause I know how easy it is to put listening to new music off).
