It looks like we have similar tastes. You appear to be a Smiths fan. Very sad about Andy Rourke!

Hi Rocket Dave. I'm surprised you don't listen to the last Psychedelic Furs much, being in your top ten bands. It is really good. Same thing about the second era of Echo And The Bunnymen. Particularly the Evergreen to Flowers part. What Are You Going To Do With Your Life has become one of my favorite Bunnymen album with Heaven Up Here.

Yes, the last album by the Furs is quite good. I should listen to it more. I should also listen to more latter-day Bunnymen. I had been listening to both bands plus a few others so much that I tried to mix it up a bit. I have been listening to Wire quite a bit lately. I missed them back in the day. Also, Sad Lovers and Giants. And Steve Kilbey (of the Church) has been prolific with his various projects. So much great music out there and some of it I'm still just discovering. Anything in particular you are listening to these days?

My favorite Wire album is The Ideal Copy. I like their recent stuff also, but not as good. I'm also always discovering new stuff. Lately Balthazar, Woods, Holy Holy, … The list goes on. I'd have to say my favorite artists form the past 5 years would be Wolf Alice and Manchester Orchestra. But I always go back to the 80s music which is also my favorite era for music. Echo, Church, Cure, Smiths, Chameleons, Waterboys, Cocteau Twins, …

Interesting! Do you know if The Fixx have a new album coming? I really loved Beautiful Friction. I thought it was their best since Phantoms.

According to their website, they are working on a brand new album. I loved Beautiful Friction as well so have hope for the new one.

Siberia and Flowers are really good for later Bunnies stuff. I've never heard Evergreen or What Are You Going To Do... have to look them up on Amazon.

It's mostly a nostalgia trip as they were one of my favorite bands as a kid. But these days I have been looking back a lot, too.,

Well I ended up cancelling on Styx. Kind of down on going to any shows these days anyway.

New Order is one of those bands I haven't managed to see live. I'm not sure if I will ever get to see them.

I wouldn't say I love it, but I do like it. I agree with your assessment about it sounding like Book of Days era. I'll be interested to hear the rest of the album when it comes out.

Hi Dave that festival I mentioned previously was last weekend, the weather went from scorching hot for the first couple of days to torrential rain and walking around in calf deep mud by the end, we saw White Lies who were as usual awesome and we also saw Inhaler who are part of the This Feeling group, Dave the similarity between Eli & Bono is huge not only in looks and voice but by his stance at the mike, the way he holds his guitar and the way he moves, Inhaler are getting big exposure atm and having seen them I understand why, they were one of my favourite acts of the weekend and I will definitely see them live again.

That's a bummer about the weather, but it sounds like the music was great. I will have to catch White Lies and Inhaler here in the states if/when they tour over here. Cheers!

I live in the state of New Hampshire. The nearest big city is Boston, which gets lots of good shows.

Listening to Inhaler as I type, yes the similarity is there, but would you notice it if you didn't know he was Bono's son, either way I like the band and the song " My Honest Face" and I'm pretty sure being the son of Bono has far more advantages than disadvantages.

To your point, I probably would not have noticed the similarity if I didn't know he was Bono's son. I'm glad you liked the song.

Hi Dave, funny enough I've only recently found about that about Bono's son and Inhaler via a post on facebook, the post said he looks and sounds just like Bono is that true? I will check out the song you mention and the new White Lies album, I'm currently trawling through all the stage lists of bands at that festival I mentioned I was going to, there's just too much music to listen to and not enough hours in the day lol'

Yes, he does look and sound a bit like him. I wonder if it was tough growing up in his shadow. Then again, I'm sure it had its advantages!

I haven't listened to it yet tbh, (I am more into early White Lies) but your getting in touch will prompt me to do so, though I am looking forward to seeing them headline a festival I'm going to in July.

Sorry to barge in on private conversation. I think Big Music was a much better effort. this one does kind of sound like Once Upon A Time but I'm having problems finding songs that I really like on it. Big Music had at least 9 good songs and a few great ones amongst them. As for the last Church album, it was good but no more. I give it a 62/100. Better than Further Deeper for me.

No need to apologize! I am always keen on discussing music. The more the merrier. Speaking of Simple Minds and the Church, I am sad to say that I missed both of their shows this past fall.

I think the new album is a little overproduced, but I do like "Barrowland Star" and "Sense of Discovery."

Wow!! A real Church fan. One of my favourites also. Although their last four albums (of original songs) are disappointing to me. The last one I really enjoyed is "After Everything..." but it still does not compare to the "Remote Luxury" to "Priest=Aura" stretch which was fantastic!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be listening to that for sure :) The Furs/Church show is a match made in heaven; really hope I can go but it will be difficult to manage with my schedule. I still haven't heard the new Church! tbh I'm rather sad about Marty getting booted but I still have high hopes for the future.

not half bad, but I was disappointed to learn that Rick McCollum isn't on it, meaning just two vintage Whigs out of a six-piece band...in practice just a new Twilight Singers record under another name - which under any other circumstances I would adore, just why call it Afghan Whigs, y'know? After Rick did the reunion tour with them (which was FANTASTIC) I just had higher hopes I guess :/

I'm sorry you didn't get to see the Chams play. Sometimes I still can't believe I saw them; it was something I never expected to happen. Sadly I've managed to miss Vox every time they came around. I hope you find the opportunity to catch one of their shows sometime. As for the Smiths, I've long given up on that ever happening...though as much as I love Mozz, I haven't been able to bring myself to see him solo.

Unless you lived in their hometown, most of us were late to the party :) Around 2000, I introduced a friend to them, someone who is a dedicated music lover, and she was shocked she'd never heard them before. It's good to see them get the recognition they deserve nowadays. Did you get to see the original lineup when they last toured? I keep hoping they'll be able to get it together to tour the States again, but it doesn't seem likely...

When did you first hear the Chams? I didn't hear of them until '92, when I bought a cassette of Script of the Bridge from a cut-out bin.
