Classically trained Russian American vocalist, Nika Roza Danilova, decided somewhere in her teens to trade opera for electronic music as a path to follow. What resulted, is a dense, at times dark, brooding, yet soaring, powerfully voiced ambient gothic industrial dirge. If music is hard to describe in words, then I'll probably like it, but as a sportsman let's say it sounds like a summoning ritual, beckoning an ancient space leviathan from behind the pillars of creation to cleanse the earth with it's benevolent gamma ray. M83 (electronic, post-rock, shoegaze)

Named after Messier 83, a far-off galaxy, heavily influenced by shoegaze along with post-rock aesthetics and song structures, fronted by french artist Anthony Gonzales, often featuring backing or co-vocals with LA based keyboardist/vocalist Morgan Kibby the group M83 make a dreamy sort of soundtrack for the mind to shoot to. They employ a lot of hushed vocals underneath many layers of synthesizers, electronics, and guitar effect pedals. Also, I would sooner die then forget to mention how much I love the monologue pieces. They are so perfectly placed within the ebb and flow of their music, achieving maximum emotional impact, that it's like the spoken bits had always been there and they built the music around that feeling or thought. Their music is quite emotive, with the beauty and whimsy therein making me feel like I'm at the prom with both Molly Ringwald & Ally Sheedy. Who is feeling lucky? Little Dragon (electronic, neo soul, female vocalists, trip-hop)

Gothenberg, Sweden's wonky trip-hop outfit Little Dragon showcases Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano along with Erik Bodin (drums), Fredrik Källgren Wallin (bass), and Håkan Wirenstrand (keyboards). Nagano has said in interviews that the band operates like a singer working with different producers, referring to her bandmates, which is evident in their tightly knit funky cohesive songs. Having collaborated and toured with the likes of the Gorillaz, Dave Sitek of TV on the Radio fame, and producers like SBTRKT, Little Dragon is starting to turn the ears of the public listener as well. Stellar songs include: Feather, Ritual Union, Twice, Blinking Pigs, and Looking Glass.

I'm new to this artist, mainly after hearing Tramp, so all I'm going to say for now is that her music settles in a nice place sonically between Eilen Jewell, Laura Marling, Neko Case, and PJ Harvey which is staggering praise in and of itself. Fresh jams: Serpents, Warsaw, I'm Wrong, and One Day.
