White Lies average run of the mill indie fuckers, Girls Aloud ... entertaining to a certain degree and nice to look at ... minus that ginger. Jigga, pretty good but maybe not the stage for him to perform. Coldplay themselves fairly good with a constant stream of hits and decent songs with only a few glitches here and there.

Uhhuh! I despise listening to them. They give music a bad name. Im all for mainstream and cheesy punk/pop, but seriously.... La Roux killed the radio star.

I completely agree but I dont think they will, I dont think they have the capacity to. I think the only statement piece they will ever make is Sometime Around Midnight. Oh, and dont give in to the pressures of La Roux and Fall Out Boy.

i was in front of the barrier, sitting down for the first 5 or so acts. The Living End being the only decent one, then got up for Brand New onwards; Yeah Yeah Yeahs were crap in my opinion ... ie i'd seen them at Shepherds Bush and they were much better. As for your new friends ... well they're a good judge of character because i'm a cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunt

to the station, stood around for a while looking at times. then talked on my phone for a while; arranging things when i got back to paddington - by the time i got back the arena was open so i just went in there because i didn't fancy going back to the tent - plus it was a long walk. And turned my phone off to conserve the battery for later, if ya must know. You can keep the torch ... and i suggest you burn the socks - surprised you didn't throw them away.

I saw the bbc3 coverage, sublime stuff. Yeah, might sell one of my tickets though since college is gonna interfere.

Bugger, just done that thing where I was half way through a message, went off to look at something I thought was in a different tab only to discover it was this one and now i've lost my opus of message! Tsk! lol Anyhow, where were we? Enjoy Spain? Was it a good family get together? We'd be delighted to host your Reading musings :) Think it should be written for Reading instead of Leeds but I do love that hint of deviousness! hee hee Yes looking forward to whatever you fancy putting together - don't worry about being completest or whatever. It all a bonus to us. What in particular are you looking forward to seeing? Otherwise, all is good here thanks. Am excited about starting uni next month! What or where are you off to? Did you come to a clear choice in the end? :)

ooooh holiday! I assume! can i come too? I'll carry your suitcase or something...lol tis wet and soggy here (as for most of the rest of the country, i'd imagine) so the thought of hopping on a plane towards a blue sky is most tempting! I love travelling. The actual travelling, the airports, the planes, love it :) Anyhow, so is a girls' trip away or with the fambly or others? Have a marvellous time of course :)

Oh that's good you got your £ back for further Russian roulette internet purchasing! Indeed, you did say you want your musical horizons expanding so perhaps this was their helpful way of achieving it! lol Speaking of new stuff, we're off to see The Crookes in Leeds tomorrow (as well as a couple of other acts on). Steve Lamacq thinks their the ant's pants but they're still unsigned and have just all graduated from Sheffield uni (mostly in English Lit - so that gives you an idea of the lyrical quality!). So we're going to see them. Shall report back! :)

Ah the mixed fortunes of buying stuff online - did you point out their error or are you quite happy with your random acquisition? lol Well as you've read, got the bass fixed so all excited about learning what to do with it now! Joy Division tabs (and anything else where I can make out a bass melody) here we come...maybe...lol all in good time. Is Lisa Hannigan the one that used to knock about with Damien Rice? I heard she got fired just before by him just before they were due to go onstage for a gig together...nice. Well who is up for a Mercury Award now? Not Damien Rice so Ha! on her behalf...lol

Hey, just saw & replied to the comment you left on my Elbow journal - thanks & sorry for not noticing it sooner! Hey, very high compatibility - awesome :) Oh & while I'm here, I really recommend you listen to David Ford if you don't know him. I recommend him to pretty much everyone that visits my profile! He's an awesome British singer-songwriter who writes really amazing, honest heart-on-sleeve songs. definitely listen to his song State of the Union - I think you can hear it in full on here - its just an amazing song :)

Hello Ms. furred arachnid :) How are you doing? Been a bit neglectful of Last FM recently so apologies for not responding sooner! Went to York last weekend and still recovering from it a bit...hee hee Had a good giggle at Cacophonaut's "throwing a sandwich out of a plane and trying to hit your bedroom window"...hee hee I remember having some en masse violin lessons at school. The idea was they were looking for some talented people to entice into their private tuition side. I clung for weeks to my sole "good bowing action" comment but sadly, I was not a chosen one...lol Ah well, i did enjoy it at the time although obviously no aptitude. Looking into getting a bass guitar repaired so may have a twang on that soon! How's things with you - what gossip have I missed? Any musical discoveries in your quest to alleviate musical boredom?? lol :)

In other news, I'm teaching myself violin. The attitude initially was (rather stupidly) "How hard can it be?", and after trying to play it I can official confirm the answer to be: very, very, very hard. Its like trying to play Bach on a guitar the size of a spoon, or throwing a sandwich out of a plane and trying to hit your bedroom window. They precision involved is ridiculous.

Arrrgh I'm having lots of arguments. A tip for a happy life: don't go on the Manic Street Preachers page and start a debate about the worth of their music. It will not end well. If I look on that little subscribers box that shows you who has visited your page and click on any username, I have probably a 90% chance he/she will be a Manic Street Preachers fan. And a big one, like they haven't played much else. Not many of them say anything though, they just stalk my page, its like being followed home by a stray dog. Not dangerous but still rather worrying.

am i just mean for wanting someone's life to crumble over something so insignificant? And i'm sorry but aren't all 3 travesties predictable: 1. PATD aren't relevant and changed their sound to another beatles rip off just for the whole "musical differences" excuse 2. MJ was always going to die, just surprised he didn't crack onstage 3. wimbledon ends ... at least they up to 16-14 on the final game - stop complaining sheeeeeeeeeesh. As for fob and placebo fans ... well i think they'd unite over their mutual love and admiration for the genius of ... YOUUUUUUUUUUUUR SEX IS OOOOOOOOOON FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE

rachel, go down the wrong road and come to a dead end instead. blame it in on me. PROBLEM SOLVED. Or watch the MJ funeral, your choice. Becca, fob will not die at reading - for starters the first few rows will be full of legions of their fans. So unless you have an inside man setting up the rigging so the lights collapse on pete wentz then it's unlikely ... i mean a bottle of piss can only knock you down. Ask that panic at the disco member ... or ex member. whatever.

Sounds like some real progress being made on your application there...interesting that it's recommended to pick an area of literature of interest...can't say i'd agree with that if you don't naturally have one. Doesn't sound good to try to shoehorn self into loving a whole genre or author if you don't. People aren't that simple! However if you're mad about Henry James or something that certainly could be useful :) As for the review, whenever your ready with it :) Looking forward to it. Shall send you a message about email, etc ... :)

Don't worry about what Dermal Toxicology is...when i find out, i'll let you know! hee hee Yes, tend to spend faaaar too much time flitting amongst here, facebook and also wikipedia reading random stuff, hopping about from article to article...shame it's all frivolous rubbish but that's why it's interesting! Can't believe they spent half an hour showing you how to log on to UCAS! Seems a bit of a waste of time, thinking how internet savvy everyone is now...especially you youngsters! hee hee ah well, perhaps not everyone is (literally) as switched on as we are! The most fun bit is of course writing the "PICK ME!" section...i hate writing that...lol One time I went through UCAS (the 2nd, am on my 3rd now ;) ) I actually had to forge my own recommendation as i hadn't anyone relevant to write it for me. That was quite fun - challenging to use a different language style and to make it sound authentic. Still, nobody questioned it, so shows how much attention they pay! hee hee

Ah the UCAS form...in my day we filled it with pens! In my husband's day it wasn't even called the UCAS (think there were different forms for unis and polys)! Anyhow, i'm back off to Uni (this time to Bradford) in September to start Pharmacy so I've recently redone the UCAS thing again. How fancy filling it online! oooh! Looked around Manchester, Sunderland, and a couple in London before choosing Bradford. Manchester had facilities but I wasn't keen on the city's "feel" and I live in Bradford, so that was convenient. Sunderland was sadly crap and London ones were good, but in London. I've already got a degree in Biomedical Sciences from Newcastle and I'm supposed to be writing up my PhD thesis in Dermal Toxicology if I didn't spend all day flitting about on here and Facebook! hee hee :) When do you have to decide your choices by?

Oh rambling is good :) We're all for personality in the writing and rambling is part of that! Yes, if you feel inclined, throw us some words together, we'd really appreciate it. Nice to have a new voice on the site. No rules apply, in terms of word count, etc. - just don't be afraid to say what you feel. Could enhance your UCAS application to a negligible amount too! hee hee As for universities, it's quite lovely that everyone is love with the one they went to. I went to Lancaster for a year before I transferred to Newcastle because I was flipping miserable there. All the cites you've mentioned have strong music scenes so hopefully you'll get to make the most of wherever you go. Think doing combined lang and lit sounds good - some variety and doesn't tie to one side of it too early. Have to say I'm a science girl rather than an arts one so not much experience there! Think you should give Bristol a go too - might as well and you could surprise self with your results.

Go. Go to Newcastle. Go. Go. It's marvellous! Go. Don't look anywhere else! hee hee What are you looking to study? I'm highly biased to Newcastle because I went there as a student myself and fell in love with the place. Technically am still a student there 6 years on as am finishing postgrad stuff now. They've got a top music scene, beaches, cities, countryside, airport and shiny new accommodation for 1st years so i believe- Go! hee hee Anyhow, think i've made my point there! Shall look forward to your impressions from the Blur gig - if you fancy it after, feel free to put finger to keyboard and give us a review to post on Dalliance.co.uk. But only if you fancy it :)

ooh all excited, Maximo Park have just announced a few UK dates in October - hurrah! Hmm, politics, i try to stay out of it where i can outside of news filtering into ears and eyes - ignorance is bliss sometimes as i think they're all bad as each other really and I'm not about to make a political stand myself so might as well sit it out. But hey, if we all thought like that, nothing would get done. Probably....lol Anyhow, i agree about the cd price! Suppose it depends on how hardcore dedicated (and deepness of pockets) of some Blur fans are. Be interesting to see if/when they come out with new stuff (rather than unreleased old stuff, if there's any of that knocking about)...

Yeah, quite like Brakes although seen Eamon (the leader) perform solo and acoustically more than seen the whole band so can be nicely odd to hear the "rocked up" versions of tracks on record, etc. It's often quite pointedly political, some people even refer to them a comedy band but I don't think that's accurate. I'm not politically aware at all (especially of the US which is a popular theme) but still manage to enjoy them :) As for "ear blinking" I think i experience that when I'm really trying to concentrate on what i'm listening to (like directions, etc). The more I concentrate, the less I hear! In lectures, this manifests itself as narcolepsy which is not handy at all! hee hee BBC said Blur wouldn't let them record their entire set but I don't agree with why that was. If you're off to their gig (as you are), you can choose whether or not to watch their Glasto footage in advance. For those not able to get to Glasto or Hyde Park, then let them be able to watch the whole set?
