i will never call the TLA the Fillmore
i must admit, Drive-By Truckers are just on the other side of the fence of my tolerance of "country". i've never been a Skynyrd fan, but if you are, these guys do
talented, they are approachable at times with beautiful songs like
Two Daughters And A Beautiful Wife but insult with other banal offerings.
i prefer Mike Cooley's songs. described as "a tall drink of water who bears a passing resemblance to Townes Van Zandt, and sings like a honky-tonk Mick Jagger."
it didn't help that the sound was deafening in the modest-sized venue and that the Truckers were making us wait over a half hour after the already long sound check. i've grown accustomed to the "west coast" hours the new TLA has been holding since the rebranding; late starting hours are expected, but the wait and the poor acoustics made my Truckers-fan companion weary.
as for the Whigs, i'd see them again. that was more my style and really got the crowd ready.
