Pink Floyd Echoes
Whichever version you love (studio version or the Live at Pompeii version or other live set) the song is a masterpiece. Without lyrics, it would be a good instrumental, the lyrics without the music - just some lyrics.
The song is part of Meddle - the transition album between two different eras of the Pink Floyd music. In the middle strange, bizzare part of the song, Roger Waters is 'killing' his "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict" from the Ummagumma album, only to bring the Pink Floyd sound towards Dark Side Of the Moon and the later albums.
The instrumental part of the song is simply blowminding, with a delicate touch (one of Gilmour's best guitar solo s) in the Meddle version and with one of the band's most agressive sound on the Live At Pompeii set (just love David Gilmour's live guitar, Nick Mason's and Richard Wright's mad sound on drums, respectively on keyboards). Just brilliant!

I'd also like to mention here the Synchronization between Pink Floyd's Echoes and the footage from Stanley Kubrick's movie from 1968 - "2001: A Space Odyssey"
