People around my age (or a bit younger) still listen to Nu Metal though. Some kids grew up listening to Nu Metal so it's a bit harder for them to give up something they heard most of their life.

Well Thrash and Death Metal are aggressive styles as well, Nu Metal focuses more on using Hip Hop/DJ styles. Not all Nu Metal is aggressive, but bands like early Slipknot, Spineshank, Korn are aggressive. The trends today is Metalcore and Deathcore, and then the Post-Hardcore and glamorous ones. I don't see many Nu Metal bands making it's way to kids these days. It's all about core now.

"You won't find any other Nu Metal bands nowadays unless if they say that they're a Nu Metal band." What are genres, if not labels? "this genre is not heavily appreciated by the media" Well not TV perhaps, but other than that I'm forced to hear this shit everywhere. I wouldn't call the fans of nu metal brainwashed. It's an agressive image that kids find cool, and you don't need song-writing skills to amaze them, but brainwash is a bit of an overstatement.

Actually, Nu Metal was just a name that someone created to label Korn and Deftones' sound. Then, a lot of other bands were also labeled as Nu Metal in the late 90's-early 00's. You won't find any other Nu Metal bands nowadays unless if they say that they're a Nu Metal band. Also, some people may like it, others not. That's how life goes... and this genre is not heavily appreciated by the media now so you can't say that the people who like it are some "brainwashed stupids".

One of the few genres where there literally exists no talent at all. Nu metal is just a way of sucking money out of people who can't recongnize good music.

Nu Metal was more about creating a wall of sound, and thick, chunky guitars than Metalcore ever was. Nu Metal was bass heavy and abrasive in sound - it was simplistic but it had punch - whilst Metalcore was artificial aggression built on a formula done time and time again (pinch harmonics, double bass, breakdown, hXC style shouty gang vocals etc.) but too often strayed into lachrymose territory.

"But the thing is, glam metal is generally just about partying and sex, just like present day radio pop music. I don't detect a single ounce of sincere emotion in it." >>> But the thing is some Jazz musicians smoked as much weed as rappers - does not that make it a valid comparison of stoner emotions? The point was that if Metalcore was ballsy in being the first to embrace those kid of softer 'bi-polar type' emotions; then so was Glam Metal as it was the first to push pop sensibilities and moving ballads into Metal (think Motley Crue's "If I Die Tomorrow") as a direct bi-polarity to the Thrash scene at the time.

But the thing is, glam metal is generally just about partying and sex, just like present day radio pop music. I don't detect a single ounce of sincere emotion in it. Metalcore on the other hand... AA is not exactly the best band to use here but most mxc bands that play a bit more... uhm, serious music can portray distraught/anger/disappointment extremely well as emotions.

@bobo9390: You could make the same point about Glam Metal. I don't approve of the bi-polarity of emotions in a lot of metalcore tracks. A perfect example being Asking Alexandria's "No the American Average" - one second screaming obscenities and the next singing emo pop type refrains. Nu Metal at least had separate tracks for ballads or softer, heart felt tracks (as did traditional Metal) as well those tracks made for explosive rage.

Remove the hip hop elements and this genre is GODLY for bassists/people that like basic, emotional honesty in their lyrics.

Nu metal has been DEAD since 2005 [3] >>> Seriously, you guys are f*cking idiots: Chelsea Grin - Right Now (Korn Cover), Bring Me The Horizon - Eyeless (Slipknot Cover), Emmure - Killing In The Name Of (Rage Against The Machine cover) Yeah I know Rage aren't Nu Metal, but perhaps the biggest influence on the entire genre.

I'd add Emmure to bobo390's list. I find it pretty funny that people can come up with these 'Nu Metal is dead' statements as 'dead' implies that the genre can't be reborn (an extremely moronic statement in itself.) Korn and Limp Bizkit have both sold 35 and 40 million albums respectively, a feat that no Metalcore or Deathcore band has even come close to achieving. Bizkit still hold the record for the fastest selling Rock album of all time. It's happening with Rap as well - Hip-Hop fans saying 50 Cent is 'dead / not relevant' because he's not the 'hot rapper' right now like Drake or Lil' Wayne, yet 50 Cent's first 2 albums sold 10 million+ albums. People are always quick to write off artists / bands and genres, yet 1 or 2 new albums and 1 or 2 bands reforming can kick start a band / genre again. Plus 'Five Finger Death Punch' aren't really that far off Nu metal and they are one of the biggest modern Metal bands right now. Finally, didn't Slipknot headline the last Download festival?

nu metal is getting a second wind right now. Old bands are reforming, bands that have been active forever seem to be getting more press, and there's a fair amount of metalcore bands such as Dangerkids, My Ticket Home, and Sworn In that are now trying to incorporate nu metal elements into their sound.

The best genre in the fucking world. The nu metal is not dead. Linkin Park is dead and other bands but for example Limp Bizkit is stand up and if Limp Bizkit is in the house the nu metal never is dead.
