Real talk, Nu Metal wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. But there were plenty of terrible bands in the scene (Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, etc.) and the good ones (Deftones, SOAD) got drowned out by all the crap. In a way, I'm glad people are re-assessing the genre now from a different perspective.

It's like the local non-classic rock station, but as a tag! It's got almost all the bands I love to hate. Fuck you korn and slipknot. Fuck you papa roach for me liking a song of yours as a child, chances are that you are right the world is better without you. It's like I'm a kid in a candy store, but with things to hate instead of candy. :'D thanks for whoever ironically tagged funeral mist, you've brought much catharsis to my jaded heart <3

Traditional/metalhead elitists are generally l haters when artists experiment with metal, a classic example here Babymetal. The funny thing is, isn't there some traditional heavy metal bands that actually like nu metal and/or the experimentation with metal? It doesn't stop though with metalheads hating nu metal (it was widely bashed during the myspace days), there's also metalheads bashing on Metallica, Megadeth, Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir. Plenty of other bands but i think these people have nothing better to do than to hate on popular bands or whatever it is they feel is necessary. Oh and also Children of Bodom. These metalheads on myspace was typing stuff like, "why are you listening to nu metal junk, listen to Dimmu Borgir or Children of Bodom!" Then you got people on last.fm bashing Bodom for being generic. It doesn't stop at metalcore or deathcore either. "As I Lay Dying are for pussies". It's a vicious cycle.

Nu metal is about real things in real life, most of the "true metal" is about imaginary things and fairytales. I think the reason so many metalheads hate nu metal, is because the genre name has the word "metal" in it. If it was called something else, metalheads wouldn't have to feel like their precious genre of music is being raped by people like Fred Durst. Any of the arguments presented by metalheads don't have any value since it's all just excuses to cover up their insecurity about their selves and how they need their "metal" culture to feel important and/or loved. Of course not all metalheads are like this, but most of them are.

@spineshank155 The Satanist tag has been overused, and I agree that some nu metal adolescent themes such as bad parents, rape, alienation, and alienation, is way more mature than "HAIL SATAN, BR00TAL!". Another nu metal band I think is political is Ill Nino at times.

Probably not political but i always found "Play God" from Spineshank to be political. Same with Mushroomhead. Neither band is most likely political (neither are the songs) but it really depends on what you think or hear to be political. Come to think about it i wonder why nu metal hasn't been that big in talking about politics. >>> "In my humble opinion, the whole "HAIL SATAN & I'M SO BRUTAL" is more childish than some of the adolescent themes in Nu metal." <<< Deicide and it's master satanist Glen Benton is just laughably insane. I don't know if what he does is a joke (or that he really does have an inverted cross on his forehead) but i agree; most of the satanist crap themes is nonsense, overrated and it's the most unoriginal theme in metal.

I write political songs btw. In the future I wish to plant them onto a band, that I would make.

"Writing a song about not wanting to talk about politics is kinda political in itself, because it means unhappiness about the political options available at the time." >>> Not necessarily (particularly given the final lyric.) It is clear from this interview that J.D has a political view but he doesn't have in depth knowledge about politics. Regardless, KoRn is not really a political band. J.D. just likes to have a few digs at Obama by surmising ridiculous theories ["Spike In My Veins"] and digs at The Whitehouse "House of Shame" [from "Illuminati".] As I said, there are barely any political themed Nu Metal songs. Velvet_Myx had to dig pretty deep and use a broad definition of politics to come up with examples.

I think there's quite a lot of political/anti-consumerism/anti-religion/"world-leaders-suck" themed songs in the world of Nu Metal. Korn has a few tracks, like Hypocrites. Disturbed has a lot. Nothingface has a kind of satirical anti-american approach on their Skeletons album. CLAWFINGER is super political on every album. Genuflect too. I think The Union Underground and POD count into that category at least a little as well. Even Papa Roach has their "Between Angels and Insects" hit song! Just pointing this stuff out, for anyone looking for that kind of themed bands, not to argue with anyone.

Nu Metal lyrics can range from political themes, bad childhood themes, teenage alienation, or something totally random.

In my humble opinion, the whole "HAIL SATAN & I'M SO BRUTAL" is more childish than some of the adolescent themes in Nu metal. I'm not denying, a lot of bands are heavily into the occult and don't rip of their lyrical themes and ideas from horror movies (Carcass and their medical terms) but some of the lyrics present in Extreme Metal are so childishly brain dead.

"Nu metal was simply heavier and had more interesting and less childish ideas than anything that has been happening to traditional metal since early 70s Black Sabbath." YEP. Plus extreme Metal is only interesting because it borrows a lot from Punk. Just listen to Celtic Frost's early material and note the D-beat drumming. In fact 1st wave Grindcore's punky leanings are closely related to 1st wave Black Metal's punky phrasing. Furthermore, listen to some early Finnish Black Metal, and the grimey textures & the frenzied, dissonant riffs are reminiscent of Grindcore (Archgoat, Impaled Nazarene.) Extreme Metal owes a lot to Discharge and Hardcore Punk.

Great genre, it blew music away, and it is one of the few things that keep us alive! This music can talk political sometimes, and influence some good change, on the other side of music, the popular stuff today rots peoples brains and slaughters them.

Pretty sure I'm not the first who states that nu metal wipes the floor with any traditional metal subgenre. Nu metal was simply heavier and had more interesting and less childish ideas than anything that has been happening to traditional metal since early 70s Black Sabbath. Under "traditional metal" I obviously imply all these conservative and dull metal subgenres such as heavy metal, power metal, glam/hair metal, thrash metal, death metal and so on.

v you could try [artist]Spineshank[/artist]'s [album artist=Spineshank]The Height of Callousness[/album] or [artist]Dry Kill Logic[/artist]'s [album artist=Dry Kill Logic]The Darker Side of Nonsense[/album]. They have some cleans for both albums but it's at a minimum. Spineshank probably has more cleans if i remember right.

"Whars [sic] wrong with it?" People don't enjoy Nu Metal because the tone is a lot different than a lot different than your classic Hard Rock/Metal bands, and because of lack of solos. There are a few scattered throughout Nu Metal bands, but they are quite limited - Coal Chamber's - "My Mercy" is a good example, but there are solos in Mudvayne's "Fear", Static-X's "Cannibal", Limp Bizkit's "Shotgun", Slipknot's "Psychosocial" etc.) It also doesn't appeal to the Hair Metal/Metalcore crowd because of lack of poppy hooks, as found in bands such at Bullet For My Valentine, Straight Line Stitch, Motley Crue etc. Korn went a bit poppy later on, 2005-2007 especially, but that was tinged with a bit of Industrial and Funk. Nu Metal is generally too dissonant and heavy to be considered poppy. Metalheads generally don't enjoy it for the lyrical themes, the groove, the vocal style and the simple song structures (although many lesser known Nu Metal songs don't stick to formulaic song structure.)

"Slipknot and Mudvayne aren't even nu metal I don't get why they fall under this category." Probably because most don't get what Nu-Metal is. It's actually bands like Papa Roach, Linkin Park and maybe even P.O.D. who don't belong here. Coming from an experienced Nu Metal listener those bands are far closer to Rap/Alt. Rock. Even later Mudvayne and Slipknot has Nu Metal groove mixed with Alternative Rock.
