Folk

民歌(FOLK)原本是指每个民族的传统歌曲，每个民族的先民都有他们自原始 /古代已有的歌曲，这些歌绝大部分都不知道谁是作者，而以口头传播，一传十十传百，一代传一代的传下去至今。不过今天我们所说的民歌 (FOLK)，大都是指流行曲年代的民歌 (FOLK)，所指的是主要以木吉他为伴奏乐器，以自然坦率方式歌唱，唱出大家纯朴生活感受的那种歌曲。编辑艺术家照片：Amos Lee

ohh almost forgot, in folk is common to see artists from countries with an official language other than English singing in this language, in fact almost all THIS folk music is in english.

Folk is like rock but with more ukelele and less electric guitar, with semi rare instruments like harp, percussions, flutes (with "semi-rare" I mean not so common in popular music that we all know), usually with less than three members per band, with (sometimes) at least a girl in the band, folk music has less songs about love or with love as the main feature (understanding the word love as romantic love), it also talks about the defects of the artist without these defects being the main feature of the song, most of the times it talks aboutof how the artist feels with respect to a given situation, almost always in real-time mode of narration, remember, ROCK and ROCK 'N' ROLL are not the same, Folk and Folklore music are not same thing neither. i konw that there are more features that right now i can not remember, I hope you could contribute with a broader definion of what than folk means. well, sorry for my bad english. i learned it with a dictionary.

i was in a borders and a guy couldnt find bob dylan anywhere and then the employee showed him the folk section and he was like hmm i guess anybody who played acoustic guitar in the 60s is considered folk now hahaha

Any music that tells a story is folk (as in folklore). Most of these are just wrong. The term (usually) has nothing to do with sound at least. Since wikipedia usually has the last word on everything, look there.
