I know what you mean fischziege :P And to DarkRainyDay... I hope you understand what I mean... cause they are pop metal... that's exactly what they are. Catchy chorus, basic repetitive riffs. Catchy melodies. Song structure is very similar to the kind you will find in pop rock. I mean... that's just obvious. They are not pop like Britney Spears, but they are a form of pop music.

i see your point and i agree on some level. some thoughts though: metal is pop. they are selling a variety of images. these images might differ from the ashley simpson pop, but the basic rules apply. the more mainstream metal needs to conform to stay in the competition. i dont have a problem with that. this tag doesnt only apply to your definition and use of the concept behind it. it is usefull to me because i enjoy female voices in metal (the harsher, more agressive kind, not so much the opera divas...). tagging is an organisational tool, not some philosophical statement about postmodern analasys of the art its applied to. not mainly anyways. great to see smbdy with principles though.

... it just wouldn't be selling any shit. Try to imagine Epica without their "front-woman". Impossible right? Yeah, because they support that kind of commercial and wrong idea that there is a "front-man" in a band. So yeah, this tag sucks. Just like anyone who consider a band to be "female fronted"

As I said before, the tag doesn't suck because it's specifing that there is a female vocalist. But because of the "fronted". There is no such thing as a female "fronted" metal band. Why? Because vocalists are not front-men or front-women. This is a misconception that a lot of people have because of the bad influence of pop music. A lot of people start to believe that the most important part of a band is the vocalist because that's what pop culture tries to sell. Just imagine Ashley Simpsons with Ashley... even the whole band (even if it's a band) is named Ashley Simpsons because "the singer is the most important musician lulz". Which is fucking untrue. But if you go for any underground band... it's totally different. Try to imagine Blood Red Throne without Erlend Caspersen (the bassist). The band just wouldn't be the same. But yeah, when you listen to popish metal like Epica... I can understand why you need a sexy girl to try and sell records... If there was no commercial icon..

Too much of the same. I don't know.. maybe I'm just old and boring, but I really can't hear much of a difference between the bands when I listen to the radio. None of them gets to me like old Theatre of Tragedy used to, and still does. They really had something special.

I usually use this tag. Preferably because it's easier. Because if you look up a genre, there's usually only 2 or 3 female bands in there. Example: if you look up mathcore. The only female band that's in the top artists is iwrestledabearonce. Therefore, this tag is 'useless,' but easier when you want to look for female fronted bands.
