Go to Snug Harbour or to Jazzfest in New Orleans and listen to Wynton play live. He is amazing as are his band. And as are his whole family for that matter - too bad we don't hear more about Delfayo and Jason! Jazz should be heard live and then you'll feel it

Does Wynton ever really let his hair down? So much of his work sounds emotionally dry, despite the great technique. Is Cherokee the closest he comes to out and out excitement?

@LondonLouis: For me it's about the right scenario to listen to it, rather than than the right mind-set. His music is less conventionally 'tuneful' than Miles' (I think) so it's less accessable, but once you get inside it you get that click. I think you just need to persevere and give him a listen once in a while in different places or at different times. For me it was headphones in an empty airport, half way round the world at 2am-ish after a long time with no sleep :) Good luck.
