沃尔夫冈·阿玛迪乌斯·莫扎特 (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756.1.27-1791.12.5.)
莫扎特出生在神圣罗马帝国时期的萨尔茨堡市中心(今位于奥地利境内)。一七六二年,年仅六岁的“神童”就被带进维也纳的美泉宫,为玛丽亚·特蕾西亚女皇演奏钢琴。莫扎特小小的年纪,就随父亲跑遍了欧洲。後来莫扎特就在萨尔茨堡主教的手下担任乐师,期间他多次造访意大利。意大利之行对他的创作产生了深远的影响。一七八一年,莫扎特和新的大主教决裂,只身来到维也纳,开始了自由艺术家的生活。莫扎特在他短短的一生中留下了数百部作品,其中有四十一部交响曲、《费加罗的婚礼》、《魔笛》等脍炙人口的歌剧和众多的小夜曲、室内乐曲、教堂乐曲、钢琴和小提琴协奏曲。莫扎特在维也纳的生活充满了矛盾,一面是辉煌的成就,另一面是失望和潦倒。一七九一年,莫扎特猝然病死,生前还留下了一部为一位不知其名的人定作的安魂曲。他的尸体被掩埋在圣马克斯墓地的一个不知名的墓穴之中。充满神密的传奇,使这位天才艺术家的故事更加吸引人。除了幼年莫扎特居住的萨尔茨堡粮食胡同如今被完好保存之外,维也纳人还把他创作《费加罗婚礼》的故居称之为费加罗楼房,为前来造访的崇拜者展现一幕幕一代乐圣莫扎特的生活。

莫扎特的童年和青年生活是在萨尔茨堡度过的,因此萨尔茨堡保留了莫扎特的出生地和故居,并且为莫扎特修建了莫扎特雕像,萨尔茨堡的音乐学院也是以这位音乐大师的名称命名的。请详见萨尔茨堡的介绍。莫扎特迁居维也纳之後,也曾多次更换过住址。其中最为著名的是费加罗楼房。在这座典型的维也纳老式楼房里,莫扎特和他的妻儿渡过了一生中最愉快的时光(一七八四年至一七八七年)。在这里,他创作了《费加罗的婚礼》,在这里他曾教授过年轻的贝多芬,在这里他被授予皇家室内乐作曲家的称号。

莫扎特去世後,尸骨安葬在圣马克斯墓地。 他的墓碑於一八九一年从圣马克思墓地移到了中央陵园名人墓地32A的第55号墓穴,莫扎特的一座大理石纪念像创作於一八九六年,如今这座塑像坐落在城堡花园,是游客们乐於观光的地方。

    @Novskjj, with all respect to Morbid angel, but their compositions are really simple. They have progressive moments, but can't say they have the same intelligence of any Mozart composition. Just analyse a composition. With Morbid Angel there just isn't much to say besides pointing out the riffs and small progressive elements. Now take any Piano Concerto form Mozart. He follows a tonic system. He plays around with small thematic parts(I wrote an analysis about Mozart's 25th Piano Concerto, with a full analysis of just the first movement and all small thematic parts that Mozart used and adjusted at different parts of the composition). He modulates through different keys. The entire composition follows a form to give the composition an unity. The man was a genius. Nowadays there are composers like that too, but don't expect to find that in a band like Morbid Angel.

    A lot of great metal is classically inspired. I don't think any metal artist thinks they're a better composer than the greats of classical. Still, I love metal, and I love Mozart. So I guess its the best of both worlds. :D

Esthetically you could say it is on a same level, but Mozart knew much better what he was doing and controlled the art much better than any metal composer. There are some bands getting there, tho. Diablo Swing Orchestra was really impressive. Therion's Secret of The Runes. Even Dimmu Borgir's mid-period albums have some impressive moments." - sorry but Gorguts and Morbid Angel are much stronger than the bands you mentioned, and they have classical influences, Morbid Ange's "Blessed are the sick" was dedicated to Mozart, and Gorguts guitarist and vocalist, luc lemay, composes orchestral works and is also influenced by many old composers.

    I've got (at least) 6 CDs of Mozart's music. As soon as I have time I want to check them all. I just don't like those joyful melodies. Now this is an absurd. At the beginning I said that Mozart was a great artist but now it looks like I said something different. Anyway, it's good that we don't argue more.

    Mozart is seldom "impressive" at first listen, his incredibly subtle idiom was an acquired taste for me. I believe his greatest works are his mature piano concertos and operas, I recommend you check out the Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 24 as well as Le Nozze di Figaro and Idomeneo - all serious contenders for the best works in their respective genre.

Anyway, I have already lost interest in this discussion as it is senseless, I have no time for writing long texts nor I do want you to change your mind by any means necessary. The time spent arguing here could be better used. As for me, I have a lot of work to do so time is precious. Although some thoughts came into my mind, I do not want to continue. If you REALLY want me to give some bands I know, you can check out Haggard, Ecthirion or the ones Antaeus enlisted, but I do not know if they will satisfy you. Certain Arcturus works are also interesting, but it is not a typically symphonic metal band. PS especially for you I have checked the sonata for piano n 11 K 331 and was not that impressed as I supposed I would be after reading your posts. Matter of taste? Anyway, I already don't care. @Antaeus; Evolution of music has nothing to do with the topic.

    @Gandalf: Reductio ad absurdum is a brilliantly elegant way of refuting your argument, I see no logical fallacy in BugTomek's post – you claim he ignored your evidence, but what evidence did you bring to this discussion? You still haven't named a single metal band that uses classical devices or approaches classical music in terms of complexity and sophistication, the whole argument BugTomek attacked stands and falls with this evidence.
