just thought id add since people are name dropping ahead of their time alternative acts, the wipers may be the earliest, but the meat puppets still also played a huge role. they were only a year or so later. not to mention the afore mentioned husker du, dino jr, minutemen, replacements, etc

hugh hefner on this shoutbox back in april 2006 got it right -- underlistened is probably a better term for these guys than underrated, as noone Ive ever met who has heard them has anything bad to say about Wipers at all... I love them so much. I love the cheap box set from the website making their music affordable and you get the feeling the royalties go to the band as opposed to so many other greatest hits/repackagings....
