Ermm, Matt didn't really "leave", Weezer quite simply broke up after their Pinkerton tour. Pinkerton was a massive commercial failure. Cuomo considered it one of his greatest mistakes, and despite its incredible brilliance, it was also critically trashed, and the band known as "Weezer" (or "Weezer blue") was obliterated in its wake. Cuomo went back to Boston and started a new band, which would later be branded "Weezer" (or "Weezer green", not to be confused with that band that released the Blue album and Pinkerton. This new band was called "Weezer" for no other reason but marketing savvy for their introduction during the Vans Warped Tour. Weezer green returned to the entirely meaningless alternative rock/power pop that sold well, and the genius and authenticity of Pinkerton would never again be attempted, though Cuomo would later claim he loved Pinkerton once it became marketable to do so.

This is the only album I like by them, but I do like a few songs of their others here & there. I don't really know why this album strikes a chord with me. Their first album isn't as bad as the rest, but this is just goddamn amazing.
