1998年，成军于泰勒（Dallaas Taylor)卧室中的Underoath(宣誓）乐队，在阿拉巴马的Takehold旗下先后发行了《Act of Depression》（抑郁行动）、《Cries of the Past》（往日的哭泣）和2002年那张《Changing of the Times》（时代的变迁）。
后来泰勒离队，主唱改为宾赛·张伯伦（Spencer Chamberlain），2004年6月15日发行他们重组后的首张专辑《They’re Only Chasing Safety》（他们只求安全），也就是我听到的这张。主唱的变更，无疑是为乐队注入了一股新鲜的血液。Underoathy一夜之间演变为一支时尚抢眼的EMO-CORE，眼下正是这种音乐在非主流摇滚乐坛中风头正劲的时候。美国人管它叫SCREAMO（嚎叫情绪）。
不论EMO-CORE也好，SCREAMO也罢，新兴的东西总是带给人无限的激情。专辑中充溢着尖锐凶狠的嚎叫，配上动感流畅的旋律十分富有新意。
在颠覆了传统的HARDCORE同时，又大涮了一把流行文化，仿佛在说：”我们不属于任何一派”。
有如天堂之于地狱，野蛮之于文明，强烈的对比效果，Underoath向我们传达的是一种破坏、不羁和叛逆。

It's weird that people are saying "older stuff is better" and referring to They're Only Chasing Safety. Back when that album came out, people hated how soft it was. Cries of the Past is the best UO album.
