由于对旧金山区盛行的乐风无法认同，歌手兼吉他手Stephan Jenkins决定寻觅一群志同道合的乐手共同创造属于自己的音乐潮流。于是在1994年，他与吉他手Kevin Cadogan、
贝斯手Arion Salazar、鼓手Brad Hargraves为阵容，成立了四人乐团Third Eye Blind心灵蒙蔽合唱团。在过去两年间，Third Eye Blind以态度十足但旋律却极为悦耳的摇滚曲
风，在旧金山一带累积了旺盛的人气，而连续为英国超级乐团Oasis的巡回演唱会担纲暖场，亦令乐团的知名度大为提升。1996年在众多唱片公司的极力争取下，Third Eye
Blind成了Elektra唱片旗下的一员。
1997年，Third Eye Blind推出首张同名专辑。向来秉持DIY精神的他们，不仅自己从制作到录音一手包办，就连专辑封面与海报的设计也不假手于外，出色的排行成绩也证明，自
陈深受Perry Farrel (Janes Addition、Porno For Pyros)、Camper Van Beethoven、David Bowie等前辈影响的Third Eye Blind的确不只两把刷子。简明畅快的
“Semi-Charmed Life”是专辑中的首支单曲，已获Billboard杂志现代摇滚榜冠军，声势惊人；而其余如描述失恋心情的开场曲”Losing A Whole Year”、情绪爆发力十足的
“Narcolepsy”与以吟唱风格为主的”Motorcycle Drive By”等都是值得推荐的佳作。不跟风、不盲从的Third Eye Blind已为自己的音乐生涯扎下了稳固的基础，这张精彩的处女

It took me this long to listen to Ursa Major, but it's actually pretty good. The whole 3EB formula hasn't changed much, but it still works if you're in the mood for it.
