在百家爭鳴的美國Indie-Rock樂界，The Shins算是近年來最成功的隊伍之一。他們融合七零年代衝浪音樂與九零年代的吉他搖滾，成功塑造出獨一無二屬於夏天的熱力陽光搖滾風格。遊走於 Indie-Rock與Indie-Pop之間，The Shins不但成功佔據了獨立樂迷心中的位置，也是西雅圖廠牌Sub Pop在Grunge風潮過後力尋轉型的重要旗手。
The Shins的前身是家鄉樂團Flake Music，經過團員流動與音樂路線的分岔，一夥成員終於決定於九九年分道揚鑣，於是促成了The Shins的誕生。The Shins的音樂永遠是一股大剌剌的直爽勁道，配合充滿著西岸風情的明亮爽朗旋律編排，主唱James Mercer的歌聲總是一副義無反顧的傻勁，直催人心。
與同儕團體如Modest Mouse、Guided by Voices除了在全國性的巡迴演出互相站台，The Shins的音樂風格也在這些樂壇前輩身上吸收了許多精華，除了在美國本土成為Indie子民的新甜心，如今也在英國站穩腳步，屢屢成為各大音樂盛會爭相邀請的熱門團體。

yeah when i think of shins i dont think of new slang, spose cos i aint watched garden state yet. for me id think, turn on me, past is pending and split needles but i have loads more which i love so much, cant wait till they tour the uk so i can see them!

New Slang was prominently featured in Garden State which I guess was a pretty successful movie. It makes sense that's it's number one. Not my favorite though.

The opening 2 songs of Wincing a Night Away is one of the most perfect starts to an album i have ever heard! Truly brilliant band. Turn A Square is perhaps my favourite song and i can't believe that isn't in the top 15!! Brlliant song! Want a new album!! :D
