Did Tina Turner really teach him how to dance for his performances? That's hilarious

No doubt the Stones have some awesome openings, but I don't know if anything else summarizes rock and roll as well as the simple guitar riff, the hit of the drums, hearing Mick exclaim oh yeah! then hear Charlie trip into the beat of the song. Just the sloppiness coupled with Mick's semi-sleazy, but totally unrestrained joy is such a PERFECT expression of rock and roll IMHO.

Sandman25: no argument about hearing new things in Exile with every listen. I was pretty upset a while back when the onion ran a piece that actually included a description of what Mick is slurring through on Rocks Off. In some ways its better when completely unintelligible. (BTW: Isn't the first 30 seconds of that song one of the greatest Rock and Roll openings to any album?)

Sandman, it's entirely possible that the charts just updated, but I see in last week's top tracks Tumbling Dice at 18th place, and Happy at 17th place amongst the last 6 months chart. Frankly I'm surprised anything from Exile does that well since that, more than anything else the Stones did was an Album, meant to be listened as a cohesive whole, not split up. Or am I missing something here?

The Stones have maybe more great albums than anyone else in rock. Which is also to say that I have no idea which is their best.

Of course this is all opinion (actually it's all Rock 'N Roll). There was a request for what is the best Stones' album. The request has been served, by several divergent opinions. It seems to me, sharing one's opinions and tastes for music is part of the (if not the main) point here. Now I have to listen to Goat's Head again since I don't recall it being THAT great since I could be wrong.

I'm not so sure Ya-Yas can't be mastered in parallel with the greats... (I honestly don't remember what order I first heard them) The performances on that are so good, that you aren't really spoiled one way or another. (especially a Midnight Rambler that's as good, if not better, than the studio recording) Especially to appreciate the Stones' sheer swagger, the LP is pretty essential.
