Today I bought myself a copy of the new album by The Weakerthans. I was rather excited that it was available in shops over here, given how few of the CDs I want these days are. Unfortunately, the excitement didn't last too long after I opened up the package (seriously, why does a CD need to be wrapped in plastic twice AND then be put in a plastic bag?), because on first listenings it's just another Weakerthans album.
Now, I know all Weakerthans music sounds pretty much the same, but that's normally a really really good thing. But so far (and I'm not saying that I won't be won over in the end - Left and Leaving took a few months for me) it's just like everything else but not quite as good. It's all about the lyrics, but I need something to draw me in, and there aren't enough hooks on Reunion Tour to draw me in.

On the other hand, I also got Fallow the other week, and it's GREAT! It's exactly like everything else by the Weakerthans, but in 1997! It's a bit embarassing to listen to, though…
