Britain has Stones and Beatles. L.A. has the Doors. The first true classic L.A. rock band and the original American rock badass in Morrison. RIP Lizard King "Get together one more time!"

One of the most memorable bands of all-time! I love Jim Morrison's voice. I even find to be a super attractive man as well. :)

If you've never listened to it, 'Soft Parade' is a vastly underrated album, perhaps my favorite Doors album (and I've been listening to them all since the day each was released): "When I was back there in Seminary School..." [Jim actually was studying to be a priest but dropped out (big surprise :)) You can hear the underlying religious influences in a lot of his lyrics]... "Can you give me sanctuary? I must find a place to hide A place for me to hide" ... "Welcome to the soft parade All our lives we sweat and save Building for a shallow grave"... "When all else fails We can whip the horse's eyes And make them sleep And cry." Another rarely heard album that's WAY off the deep end - "An American Prayer", poetry by Jim Morrison with accompaniment by The Doors. The album was banned from radio and most stores as pornography back then. Radio also banned or censored the last song on the first Doors album, "The End," because of refs to father murder and mother incest.

My greatest regret in terms of music is that I never saw The Doors live. Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix were my heroes at that time. I was just leaving adolescence and public school and gaining almost total freedom as a young adult, outrageously wild, living "out of the body" most of the time -- not all of it externally induced, as the world of eastern spirituality exploded onto the counter culture scene with a much deeper, longer lasting effect than any mind altering substances. I was able to see Jimi in concert in Vancouver, British Columbia but never got to see Jim and company. Hearing of his crossing over into spirit while driving in my car very late one night will remain indelibly stamped on my consciousness for life. Such a loss of not only a brilliant avant garde musician and vocalist, but also a visionary poet and social activist -- far ahead of his time. Long Live The Doors in our culture and consciousness!!!
