在九十年代初西雅图众多的临时组合的超级Grunge乐队中，Temple of the Dog属于名气和成绩都不小的一支乐队，尽管它只在1991年发行了一张同名专辑就解散了。这支乐队是由Soundgarden乐队的主唱Chris Cornell为了纪念死于吸毒过量的Mother Love Bone乐队的主唱Andrew Wood（这两位据说大学时代曾是室友，关系看来不错）而临时组建起来的。Chris Cornell首先找来Soundgarden的队友、鼓手Matt Cameron和原Mother Love Bone乐队的成员贝司手Jeff Ament和吉他手Stone Gossard，紧接着当时只是小有名气的歌手Eddie Vedder和吉他手Mike McCready也都被邀请到了Temple of the Dog乐队中来。

说这支临时乐队伟大，就在于Ament、Gossard、Vedder和McCready这四位（后来Matt Cameron也跳槽过来）之后成立了又一支伟大的Grunge乐队——Pearl Jam！1991年，同名专辑《Temple of the Dog》正式发行，这也是Temple of the Dog唯一一张正式专辑。这张专辑在全美Billboard 200榜上曾排到第五名，1992年底销量达到白金。单曲“Say Hello 2 Heaven”和Vedder与Cornell合唱的“Hunger Strike”都进入了主流摇滚榜的前五名，成为Grunge经典歌曲。

Instead of recording pop albums Cornell shoud record something with Pearl Jam so it could be in fact reunion of Temple of the Dog..

Does it really matter which album is the best. Two unique pieces of art, that cannot be compared neither between each other, nor with any other bands. What makes this two bands be so special, not only inimitable vocalists, but also Mike McCready's outstanding work.

AIC fans will think Mad Season is better, Soundgarden fans will think TOTD is better. Anyway both albums are great. Imo TOTD is better. It has as much soul, better compositions, a Cornell vocally on top...and there's the story surrounding it... definitely one of the best album of the grunge era.

I thought their album will be good and it will be good to check it. I was wrong. It's not good. It's absolutely beautiful and oh god I don't know english so good to write how outstanding this album is.
