Punk, the label came from the UK. In the US it was quite different, it meant a different, very negative thing and certainly not a genre of music. Even so that Alan was offended first when he heard some considered Suicide 'punk'.

That being said, if you're going to label a band 'punk', usually they happen to center their lyrics or ideals around the things I've previously stated. So really, Suicide is punk, the Dead Kennedys are punk, Leftover Crack is punk. They're all punk because that's the VIBE they give off through the music. Whether it's through minimal synth music or fast n' loud music. However, the vibe has to actually be that of a punk. It could just be from the point of view of a cynic, like Pink Floyd's 'Animals' for example has a cynical view on life, but isn't punk. It's all very simple classification. And you're complicating it...

Punk doesn't have one specific sound to it. The minute labels go that specific, they become pointless. If punk is only reserved to bands like Suicide, then hardcore punk bands (stillll punk, bro) don't qualify? I said that punk has a general vibe to it. The vibe of anger, anarchy, cynicism. You can't deny that that's generally what punk is meant to mean. I said this band takes that vibe, and presents in a way that is completely original.

wow someone has fuck low self views .... suicide is one of the bands that came out to the n.y.n.y. punk era to go and do things a totally different way...a totally fuckin brilliant and kewlass way way before any one else thought of doin it...alan vega is a god and a true tortured soul..but even sayin that he is an icon to the music ind. and the punk/performance movment ....sorry winterhymn bare no ground
