I like Bright Flight and American water equally. I don't like any of the other albums. They seem so messy and either overproduced or, I don't know. I can't get into any others anyway, but I still will say the Silver Jews are my favourite band based on how much I love those 2 albums.

hey burger i thought that the thought was that dc is ready for a change in the direction of his talent. he retired the silver jews and is moving on to other things: i think he mentioned "muckraking". he'll be writing poetry until he dies, i'm sure. he just "went as far as he could"--as far as he felt like going--with music accompanying his poetry.

"you think david berman is going to be releasing music when he's 50? I doubt it. he's a poet, and he went as far as he could with music around poetry." This is basically a way of saying "David Berman does not have enough talent to make more music ". Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, to name two recent literary examples, wrote their best poetry after the age of fifty. Scott Walker's best and most original album (The Drift) came out after he turned sixty. David Lynch's best two films (Inland Empire and Mulholland Drive) were both directed after he turned fifty. The "too old for art" argument is nothing more than an excuse.

I really love "American Water", but cant really listen to all th eother albums, they're pretty boring to me. It's strange I mean, "AW" is a real masterpiece for me, and it's not vey far from the other ones, the style is kinda tthe same....

but let it be known that they have very little annoying songs. about 99.5% of the songs they've made are fantastic... the other 5% are songs that get on my nerves. i'm not saying that silver jews suck at all. really, they're a favorite.
