跟其他复古流行电子乐团一样，来自洛杉矶的Shiny Toy Guns对於1980年代的流行电子新浪潮乐风十分迷恋，
STG成员迷的是能在音乐中散播欢乐气氛，营造性感快意的Thompson Twins 、Peaches 这一挂乐团，在STG以首张专辑We Are Pilots抢下全美热门潜力榜冠军后，有人说他们是一支搞时髦、玩迷幻、穿戴着哥德、新浪潮装扮的乐团，有人称他们是一支混搭着舞场超杀能量的电子乐团，其实，在STG抢眼的外表下，他们的音乐也不时泛着属於知性青年的情绪颜色。键盘手Jeremy Dawson与吉他手Gregori Chad Petree筹组过Cloud2Ground、Slyder等电子舞曲团，发表了几张专辑作品后，转往幕后担纲制作，2004年，他们找了主唱Carah Faye Charnow、鼓手Mike Martin两人一起组成STG，透过MySpace空间的设立，逐渐在加州音乐圈打开知名度，2005年初，以独立制作与发行方式发表首张专辑We Are Pilots ，并以巡回演唱行程造势，2006年6月，与环球音乐厂牌签下唱片合约，没多久，这穿着时髦紧身裤、画着深深眼线的乐团瞬间成了镁光灯追逐的焦点，首先是Jeremy因为针对苹果电脑执行长Steve Jobs呼吁废除DRM(数位音乐版权管理)制度发表不同见解而引发争论，而Carah Faye则被媒体臆测说她是Paris Hilton专辑

里真正的演唱者，Carah Faye连忙澄清那是因为她曾为Paris专辑里收录的歌曲担纲试唱所造成的误会。 STG乐团不否认Carah Faye牵连到Paris的代唱疑云确实吸引到不少乐迷的目光，事实上，乐团之所以能够晋身主流市场还跟她忙碌穿梭在加州派对圈，逢人就送乐团专辑的促销奇招有关，因为某些名流听过专辑后，就会找他们担任派对演唱工作，场子唱多了，知名度就起来了！当该团为Maroon 5担任演唱会暖场后，人气自然就沸腾到一个高点。首张专辑<We Are Pilots>中深具时尚摇滚线条的单曲”Le Disko”深获网友青睐，一举登上iTunes点播榜上的每周推荐单曲，随后进驻全美现代摇滚榜第26名，这首单曲后来也成了电玩游戏「Burnout Dominator」以及女性时尚影集「The L Word」第4季插曲。鼓动着劲量电子电流的流行摇滚曲”You Are The One”则是获选为热门足球电玩游戏「FIFA 07」的主题曲。

Carah had no input into the creative process of We Are Pilots besides laying down her vocals. And even then, Chad still did most of the singing on WAP. She wanted more say in their 2nd album, chad and jeremy did not like because it was their band that they started together. She left. She started Versant so she could make the music she always wanted to make. And look how it turned out, absolutely awesome. And they haven't even released the finished versions of any of their songs.

P.S. Carah fans, I do recommend checking out Versant if you haven't already. They have a totally awesome and lovely sound and they could use the support. I know they love hearing from their fans. :D

About the Pussy Cat Dolls thing, just check the shout I left on @lucascu's page. And I'm not sure I get the whole "old" Shiny Toy Guns / WAP association. WAP was written by Chad and Jeremy (with some help from Chad's bro Stephen). Carah did nothing but lay down vocals I'm afraid (not diminishing the fact she has one of the most amazing female voices today and her singing style did have influence), but she wasn't really ever part of the creative process. I really don't see this band as the "old" or "new" Shiny Toy Guns. I just see... Shiny Toy Guns. =]

just got today on the mail my Shiny Toy Guns Cds (i bought them in amazon, since you can't buy their music in Chile), I LOVE We are pilots, and season of poison is really good, i love everything, the artwork the cd itself. EVERYTHING !

I was starting to give Sisely a lot of respect after listening to Frozen Oceans but then... then I saw she tried to be a member of the Pussycat Dolls. OMG Carah, where are you? At least release something with Versant. <--- that was ages before she joined STG, and judging her from that is just fucking stupid. Judge her on her performance on the album, not her past.

This band had a rare magic that I have no doubts will never be recreated within them when Carah, Chad, Jeremy and Mikey were performing together. Regardless of the reasoning behind the separation, the fact of the matter remains and that is that the cold-chill inducing, life-altering, mind-blowing magic is long gone. Sometimes this still saddens me when I think about the fact that these people were once such an insanely prime part of my life mere years ago. I remember a time when I was entirely devoted and now I cannot bring myself to really, truly even care what the status of this once perfected music-making team is up to. Very unfortunate though what they have given me will never be forgotten. Not ever.
