i admitted that i wasnt too open minded about Robin Guthrie's solo works, thus i decided to give him a try. a friend of mine started me out with the newest album, "Carousel" which reminds me of "Milk & Kisses" without Elizabeth's singing, although i find that i enjoyed it thoroughly. its something good to read or write to, and i felt that it was a good representation of Robin Guthrie's work. im considering "Continental" or "Everlasting" as my next listen.

I have now given a listen to the recent releases and I have to say I like the two EPs ("Angel Falls" and "Songs To...") more than the album, which I felt was a bit too sweet and cheerful. I'm gonna listen to it more though, and I should also revisit the older albums, I haven't listened to them for some time.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for any Guthrie solo works that closely resemble his work with the Cocteau Twins should check out the EP "Angel Falls".

Why would you rant about Robin Guthrie only being amazing as a part of the Cocteau Twins if you've never even heard his solo work? That's rather ignorant, especially considering how much of an influence he has been to countless numbers of artists. Each of his solo albums are very very similar so just pick an album and give it a go; although Continental is his best work to date in my opinion.

Carousel is a bit subtle, but very tasty when you give it a chance. New EP "Songs to Help My Children Sleep" out on iTunes. The track "Fireflies" is just breathtaking. Exclusive Darla comp track "Flight of the Painted Lady" is on iTunes; good thing, too, 'cause it's awesome!

Couldn't agree more with MiloDC. Angel Falls is much much better; which makes Carousel that much more of a disappointment considering Angels Falls is only an EP. I wouldn't mind of full length in the same vein.

Robin Guthrie's latest album reminds me of Cocteau Twins' last album, _Milk and Kisses_, in that he is really starting to sound like a caricature of himself. _Continental_ is a great album that really showcases much of what makes Robin the living legend that he is, but _Carousel_ is sounding largely monotone and predictable (not really surprising, this happens to virtually all career musicians). Perhaps I'll change my mind on successive listens, but I don't think so.
