Heck, I'd give this track MY heart, if it needed any more heart. I've never hated God, but I think I'm starting to love 'him' more, thanks to this song. Thank you, Regina!

I'm not sure how I feel about the lyrics. On the one hand, the song approaches a no-atheists-in-foxholes mentality, but then on the other hand, it seems to be saying that the word 'God' is highly contextual. I take the last line to be reminding us that questions like God are just a big mess and the only appropriate response is laughter. After all, any God who made this world sure has a good sense of humour. Maybe I'm reading too much into it and it really is just about how atheists are stupid. But I choose to think Regina is smarter than that.

first of all tom_dissonance it's not joan osbourne, it's joan osborne! (i hate when people missspell her name cause i adore her :D). second of all, just cause regina is also a female singer/songwriter and singin about god, it doesn't make this a new "version" of one of us. i'm an atheist and i love this song. i just think this song is about life, how it can be horrific but it can also be pretty funny in an ironic way. like god.

...I'm pretty sure this song is more about how you shouldn't use something good (i.e. God/what God symbolises) to be a dickhead, myself, because life can be a bit shit sometimes. I think we're all overthinking it a bit.

I've always liked this song but I've always scratched my head while listening to it. But I've had an epiphany. I think this can easily be interperted as a song about how God is real and we all subconsciously know it, but we won't admit it. "No one laughs at God in a hospital, No one laughs at God in a war." Its saying that during these rough times that people enconter during their lifetimes, they all turn to God or to something higher than them. But during the good times or around other people they mock God and the idea of Him and find it easy to disregard. But In the end, I think its all like we're laughing with God because the same voice inside us that told us pray to God that our moms would get healed in the hospital, pray to God that our soilders will stop dying in the war, pray to God that our favorite football team will win the big game is the same voice that knew that he existed the whole time. And this is something we all eventually realize. Y'know?

Is this a debate on the existence of God, or rather one persons interpretation of what the idea of God is and how people look to It durning times of distress? Really, if you believe in God or any other force greater than yourself do you respect that authority only when you are dire circumstances? To those who do not believe, what do you gain from mocking those who do? The very last line, "We're all laughing with God" is definitely left open to interpretation.

horrible. how'd she go from so great to writing a bland "kooky" "alt.rock" version of "One Of Us" by Joan Osbourne in such a short time? and i dunno how you lot on here can drag so much analysis out the meaning of the lyrics when they basically boil down to "there are no atheists in foxholes" drawn out over four and half dreadful, predictable minutes. easily among the worst songs she's written.
