Although I really vide with the 5/8 Kid A version, I really think you're right. This version feels more... eloquent?? I don't know what to say really, but I definitely like this one better (not that the Kid A version is bad).

Kid A is a better album but this contains 3 of Radiohead's absolute best songs. Pyramid Song, You and Whose Army? and Like Spinning Plates.

You need to like the darkness that swarms both high and low above our heads on this one. But it's the one that touches me in the most different and pleasant ways. I can pick it up anytime. The brutal experimentality, monotonous synthlines all around, the working-to-climaxes, guitarwork, backing vocals, Thom's voice at its very best and all of it so well produced. Like I've read Thom said, that Amnesiac was a fire around you, compared to Kid A where you see the fire in the distance. That feels so well-described. Listen through good gear and it's almost as if you are with them during the (what probably have been) late night/early morning recording sessions of this period. And though all songs are so different from each other, I think all of them are brilliant, both individually and together. People may call them b-sides or whatever, but I wouldn't have wanted any single one of them to be placed on any other album than this. A true collection of songs of its own.

Great thoughts. I've also long considered this to be my favorite and their best studio album. I really think the initial description of it as the leftovers from the Kid A sessions as well as backlash because it was (very) far from the "normal record" that people had been expecting as the follow-up to Kid A have colored people's perceptions of it to this day.

Beautiful "Pyramid Song", sad "You and Whose Army?", haunting and dark "I Might Be Wrong" (best track on the album for me), "Knives Out" and "Life in a Glasshouse" also are pretty good. Can't say I love this album very much, but it'll be in my list of most listenable Radiohead albums for sure.
