It's rather biased to 2005-2009, because in the last five years I've been more in touch with current pop/rock music than ever before, thanks to my current job and to sites like last.fm, daytrotter and 3voor12.
The entire point of being with a woman is to sleep with her. Other than that, there aint nothing much to do with a woman, coz you have to PRETEND to be romantic all the time just to get her into bed. I mean heck I love chillin with the hommies during the day, but sleepin with a fine chick at night rules! So I would tell the b*tch I will meet you for dinner. Chill with the hommies all day, meet the b*tch around 9pm, act all romantic and ****, and go sleep with her at nite. A Perfect day! :)
3. What's in your CD player right now?
Hmm, many many different things. Today it was one I haven't listened to in ages - Nine Inch NailsThe Fragile . But lately it's also been various Primus , The Tragically Hip , Dance Mix '95 ...basically a lot of stuff on shuffle.
4. What was the last show you attended?
Funnily enough it was Three Days Grace with The Used & Default last week. I'm not even really a fan of any of those bands enough to buy a ticket to see them. ESPECIALLY not The Used. I actually can't even stand *those* guys. I managed to get free tickets so I went, though I missed Default. But I will say Three Days Grace is very good live. Talented dudes. & The Used's band is good... too bad that Bert moron ruins everything with his shitty stage presence (or lack thereof) and shitty attitude, along with shitty idiotic one-liners.
Other shows this year so far were Mindless Self Indulgence , The Pack A.D. , Atmosphere , Grady , k-os , SNFU , The Watchmen , Stone Temple Pilots , Our Lady Peace , DL Incognito with D-Sisive (booked that show myself... whole other long ridiculous story to go with THAT one.) , The Tragically Hip , Left Spine Down (opened for them on 2 fall tour dates with Alectrona) Matthew Good , and lots of smaller shows. Also opened for Die Mannequin with The Alcohollys . Whoo, that was a mouth full.
5. What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
Damn, I'd still have to say first Korn show, all 3 Beastie Boys shows, and Foo Fighters actually blew me *away*. Absolutely amazing live show, so much energy, Dave is one solar flare of a dude! OH SHIT WAIT! I must remember Oasis !! I saw them at this infamous show , including the "Noel gets shoved" part of it. Aside from that, it was an AMAZING show. First time I've seen Oasis and it kicked ass. This next one I want to note was People Under the Stairs . Good good good. Check em out if you haven't yet. Also Alanis Morissette as a notably good show. She can belt it out, I tells ya. Aaaaaand Slipknot back in April 2000. Intense.
WHOA! ONE MORE I ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT! Weezer !!
I was so impressed by their show, saw them in September 2008 at the ACC in Toronto. Got front row on floor, and couldn't believe how into it Rivers actually was. I had a feeling he'd act burnt out or be a bit stand-offish, but he was very talkative with the crowd and he seemed genuinely happy to be on stage. Plus they played about a 2 hour set, maybe a bit longer. Very happy I got to see them. Very.
6. What's the worst show you've ever been to?
Haha, it's hard to say.... that Alexisonfire show was still pretty bad. But I forgot about a Godhead show I saw way back in the day. I was up front and all I could smell was baby powder flying off their faces from them trying to look gothically white. As far as recently, The Used were pretty bad. Well, like I said, it was just Bert that was bad.
7. What's the most musically involved you have ever been?
I still dunno what kind of answer is expected here... I guess it's open to interpretation. But for now I'll say I play instruments (solo and in bands) and I *would* infact most likely go literally insane if I didn't have music. People throw that sentence around a lot ("Oh I'd DIE without music!") but I don't think most of them really understand what that means. I'll leave it at that.
8. What show are you looking forward to?
"Hmm, I'd love to see Beastie Boys again, but for now, it's The Tragically Hip and possibly Slayer." - haha, that was my answer 3 years ago.
It's still Beastie Boys and this time I have a ticket for Slayer with Megadeth and Testament. Sweet. I'm also looking forward to the New Years Eve show my band The Alcohollys is playing at Call The Office. No event made on LastFM for it yet, but here's the Facebook one for it.
10. What is your favorite band shirt?
Haha, still too many to name. Even more now than last time, hah.
11. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?
Shit. WAY too many to name now.
12. Who is one musician or group you wish would make a comeback?
"Not so much a comeback, but someone I would have liked to see back when they were kickin around originally would definately be The Beatles, The Verve, Pantera, Stone Temple Pilots, The Pharcyde (back in their old days), Rage Against the Machine ... tons more." - answer from 3 years ago.
Since then I've got to actually see Stone Temple Pilots , The Pharcyde , and Rage Against the Machine reunite! Drove 9 and a half hours for the Rage one to NYC. Was the Rock The Bells 2007 show. Fucking awesome. There's so many more comebacks and old bands I'd love to see still. I can't pin down just a few. Lunachicks would for sure be one.
19. What was your last musical "phase" before you wisened up?
"I like too many things to fit in anywhere even if I tried." - Same answer.
Aw yeeeeah.
20. What's your "guilty pleasure" that you hate to admit liking?
"There's nothing I won't admit!!" - Same answer again.
Even moreso than back then, I'd bet. ;)
Seems like 90% of indie bands are just bunch of emasculated boys singing girly choruses in high-pitched, feminine tones. Where's the rock? Where's the testosterone, where's the edge, the aggression, the BALLS? Getting tired of these little heroin chic, girl men wailing in falsetto.
I guess the music is a by-product of the overly-feminized society we live in.
Remember grunge? At least those skinny white boys weren't afraid to get in yer face and let you have it. It seems now, the same generation of white boys have lost their balls. Guys like Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley at least burned bright while they were here. They weren't afraid to show their anger and angst in their music. Whereas these singers now...just seem passified, is that a word?
in days gone past, guys didn't learn to harness their testosterone until well into their twenties. Nowadays though, any sort of aggression or masculine behavior is quickly snubbed out in the classrooms and homes in our western culture as feminism asserts itself on young males and impresses itself on young females. So I think this new generation of "rockers" has been conditioned to be more passive and feminine.
Indie music, as a genre, and it's toned-down, tamed, un-offensiveness is a direct reflection of the emasculation that feminism has achieved in young males. It's like every Indie band is a slightly different version of Bright Eyes. A castrated male plea to society. And the message indie music is sending is "I'm sensitive, I understand you, I'm aware of the harm men have done to women and the harm men have done to our environment".
My only point was that, as a result of the feminist movement, men in general have been emasculated and this is reflected in the music of our generation. Indie music, is a perfect example of this. Further, indie music, as a genre, is no longer relegated to the underground scene but has now moved into the mainstream. Masculinity and femininity are foreign concepts now, unidentifiable. And this is what I see in indie music.
Peter Frampton's music represents masculinity, that which is distinctly male. With his music he doesn't apologize for being a man, rather with it he embraces and expresses what it is to be a man. Unapologetic sexuality, the desire to conquer whatever he wants to conquer, non-accountability to the establishment. By "establishment" I mean government, feminism, liberalism or any movement or structure that would attempt to strip him of his masculinity.
To be a man is to be your own master. You don't answer to a bureaucracy and you certainly don't answer to women. To be masculine is to be the dominant one, the leader, the initiator, assertive, without fear of confrontation. Basically, the exact opposite of everything that indie music represents. Thus, indie music has been emasculated and now represents the traits of femininity rather than masculinity. Indie songs are always about how guys are in touch with the issues, especially those of women and the environment.
If you think the feminist movement is nothing more than women seeking equal rights, you're exceedingly naive. The feminist movement is THE prominent, all-encompassing philosophy of our society. The feminist movement brainwashes women into believing that they don't need men, that men are pigs and worth nothing more than servants with one task; to give women what they are entitled to. Which leads me to the sense of entitlement that feminism instills in women. Under the feminist philosophy, every woman deserves a perfect man, a perfect job, a perfect life, etc. and isn't required to do anything in order to earn these things.
Under the feminist movement, that reared its ugly head along with the abortion/eugenics movement, women are taught that nothing is more important than "ME". So women abort their babies because the babies are an inconvenience to them, they stick their infants in daycare because their job comes first and they divorce their husbands because he doesn't make them happy.
For the young males, the lines have been blurred, all but erased as to what it means to be a man and what those traits are that distinguish men from women. The people on this site, of whom most assuredly are all young males between the ages of 18-35, haven't the foggiest idea about what masculinity is, further, they misinterpret it as chauvinism, sexism and ignorance. They have proven my point that males have been brainwashed along with the females by the feminist/liberal movement.
Don't get me wrong, I like indie music. In fact, most of what I listened to is considered indie. But that's where the emasculation stops for me. Thankfully I have a dad who grew up pre-feminist era and he instilled in me a proper understanding of what it means to be a man.
I feel sorry for males that grow up without guidance from their dads, a role model to show a man how to be a man. But the fact is, that's the way most guys grow up. Most dads nowadays are already ruined, castrated by the feminist movement. Now that women have invaded the workplace and every other aspect of our society, men have become nothing more than accessories, even hindrances. Everything that was masculine has been removed, replaced with an asexual/feminine quality.
One need only take a look at the men, and I use that term very loosely, that are in most of these indie bands. They are weak, skinny, effeminate humans. Like I said earlier, it's almost like they're ashamed of being men. They are afraid they might offend someone by showing any masculine traits. And their songs reflect this. I can't be the only one who notices this.
Media portrays men as weak, unimportant buffoons, and that's what they've become. Look at how many tv shows and movies mock men, with characters that are constantly apologizing for being men. Music is no different, especially indie.
