乐队成立于1987年,由家庭工作室进入迷幻的，实验阶段的，进步中的音乐的出路。其实，主唱Wilson早在乐队成立的几年前就开始玩音乐，并且是一个在音乐上早熟的年青人，他自学了吉他和键盘。尽管后来Wilson说，他早期和那些有名的“地下乐队”比如Altamone和Karma合作的带子已经成为他的fans们的值得收集的珍品（大部分是因为包含了后来乐队的曲子象”Nine cats”，”Small Fish”，”This Long Silence”这样的早期版本）。

1987年,Wilson开始了2个将把他推进职业音乐世界的工作。第一个是和歌手 Tim Bowness和小提琴手Ben Coleman组成了摇滚三人组NO-MAN。但是第2个却使生命几乎成了两个朋友之间的笑话。SW和他的朋友Malcom Stocks想出了一个几乎完全是虚构的历史——这个就是Porcupine Tree。为了支持这个故事，Steven为这个幻想出来的乐队录制了几个小时的音乐。这些所做的音乐纯粹是自我放任，但是直到1989年初， Steven才把一些高质量的歌曲编进了专集”Tarquin’s Seaweed Farm”并且分发了一些拷贝给那些可能会喜欢听的人。他们中的一个人来到了地下由Richard Allen和Ivor Trueman合作运作的UK杂志。在那个时候Steven还不知道他们正准备建立他们自己的录音公司。尽管他们在杂志社里对Porcupine Tree的第一个带子有相当的冷淡的评论，但是还是把他们编辑进了地下迷幻乐队里最好的集名册中。最后，经过了18个或者更多月终于有了结果，同时 Steven开始在”Tarquin’s Seaweed Farm”和”The Nostalgia Factory”场子里推广Porcupine Tree乐队的音乐。在这不久后Steven被新商标组织邀请成为了第一个注册Delerium商标的艺人。最初的邀请是要重新发行带子和两张专辑，但是 Steven决定改变，把两张专辑编辑成最好的材料，放进一张专辑里，起名”On the Sunday of Life…”。1992年初，第三个用新的商标发布的版本”On the Sunday of Life…” （大部分来自原来的最终版本”Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape”）制作成1000张有豪华插图的拷贝小型发行。这样在来自出版社和大众的兴趣之下，立刻就重新发布了cd版。通过其他的途径，这个专辑包含将来Porcupine Tree乐队经典并且在演唱会上经常要求再唱一次的”Radioactive Toy”。直到2000年”On the Sunday of Life…” 已经突破了20,000个销售量。

While The Incident is not even close to a top alum for me when ranking my favorite PT albums, it's still phenomenal. That's the kind of band PT is. Even some of their worst is more solid than most other bands best.

The Incident takes on a whole new level live, it's actually incredible. The images they put up were so thought-provoking, and it was really something seeing the music set against it. They really couldn't have done anything other than play it in its entirety, and it worked SO well

Oh The Incident played live was great. I just haven't listen to it long enough so the older songs were more meaningfull to me. Certainly found a new appreciation for the album after the concert, as I know many other people did.

For me The Incident was the greatest magic. Playing something like TI live and creating the atmosphere of the album is something amazing. And playing it so that it sounds significantly different than on the album, but is equally awesome is even more remarkable.

Never gonna happen, every time PT have done a gig in Liverpool, SW manages to offend the whole city. The first time he quipped a joke about the Hillsborough disaster I think it was about Liverpool fans pissing on policemen or something like that. The second time round it was around the time when Kenneth Bigley was kidnapped in Iraq and he suggested to the audience "Why don't they just get on with it?". After that when he wrote an article about it he suggested Liverpool was wallowing in its "Victim Status" over the murder of Bigley and the Hillsborough disaster. He was forced by his manager to go to Liverpool and publicly apologise. Since then he has never returned to Liverpool and refuses to do so. You will have a higher chance of seeing him in Bangladesh.
