British by birth, in infancy Ritchie moved with his parents to Canada. He rose in the town of Windsor on the border with the United States, and that probably had a decisive role in the formation of his musical tastes - Windsor next to the U.S. Detroit, an industrial monster (there is a company General Motors) and one of the points in the emerging world of techno culture. In the mid 80’s Ritchie is keen on EBM, tsarivshim whereas in the alternative clubs, and is in the heart of the emergence Detroit sound - appear on stage Derrick May, Juan Atkins and other pioneers of what later was called the “Techno, the new sound of Detroit” . Richie turns plates in local clubs and at the same time begins to gnaw drum machines and synthesizers.

I've tried listening to other "minimal techno" artists, and cannot find another one I like. Monolake I think is pretty good, but Richie Hawtin a.k.a. Plastikman, is awesome.
