I started with "Chance Meeting", but it took me a while to get into it. I'd probably suggest Huffin' Rag Blues, as LordRama said, since it's weird, but fairly straight-forward. At least for Stapleton, anyway.

Homotopy to Marie and Drunk With the Old Man of the Mountains are good places I'd say. Huffin' Rag Blues is a good example of Stapleton's take on more "conventional" music. From there just go with the albums that have cool titles.

As a huge fan of 50's lounge music, I certainly appreciate Huffin' Rag Blues, but I think Sylvie and Babs was a more successful take on the genre. The Surveillance Lounge, on the other hand, is just fantastic and one of the best things Steve's done in years.
