Necrophagist (meaning someone who practices the eating of corpses) is a technical death metal band from Germany, led by guitarist/vocalist Muhammed Suiçmez. The band is noted for its neo-classical guitar technique and the use of many different arpeggio techniques. After recording their demo, the remainder of the band quit and Muhammed was left to record the debut album, Onset Of Putrefaction, himself, with the aid of computer programmed drums. After some time, Necrophagist’s line-up finally stabilised, and their new album Epitaph (signed by Relapse Records) was released in 2004.

Since Necrophagist’s debut was out of print for years, and Muhammed was never fully satisfied with the sound of it, the band re-recorded it. This new re-release includes brand new drum samples that Hannes Grossman, the drummer, recorded piece by piece. All of the old guitar, bass, and vocal tracks were mixed along with the brand new drum samples, to create a crisp and clear stereo track. The re-release also features two songs from Necrophagist’s 1995 self-titled demo tape. The whole album was also engineered by long time Necrophagist engineer and producer Christoph Brandes at The Iguana Studios.

On the 10th of February, 2006 it was announced that Christian Muenzner had departed the band due to ‘scheduling conflicts’. A replacement guitarist has been found, Sami Raatikainen, who is from Helsinki, Finland. Sami also plays in the band Codeon. The band was on hiatus from March 2005 to June 2005, due to Muhammed Suiçmez being ill.

who cares if they abuse a harmonic minor? or majors etc.. They do it well. It all sounds great. If you can write all this remember it, play it flawlessly live [goes to show they dont copy and paste a lot in the studio] then whats there to complain about? if you dont like it, then why complain about it? They're impressive, the music is well written in a technical sense.. i dont see the problem.. is it because they're TOO clean and TOO talented? it's weird. I never really went on last.fm to go on someones page and go UGH THEY SUCK. Maybe if i previously liked them and they changed then yeah.. but coming on here and saying they suck [especially when you're not really getting far in the music business, they are] then i dont see why complain, or say WANK. It's very well executed wank. It's catchy wank. It's technical death metal.. with a classical edge, yngwie was one of muhammads influences. Think about it.

Necrophagist = Harmonic Minor madness Well, that doesn't mean that they make bad music. But I like bands like Spawn of Possession or Suffocation a lot more.

Necrophagist is just a guy playing up and down minor and major (occasionally diminished) scales on various keys with a few hooks thrown in there. Bands like Anata go beyond playing up and down scales, they play complex melodies and harmonies to convey emotion.
