I dunno, man. Fade out is not an ending in my books - it's a fade out. Rows' "ending" is kinda ok. But The Night Believer is just sad, how the thing starts fading out, right after it starts. That part sounds great! Why hide it away from us like that? :< And the fact that fade outs were used since the forever is not really an argument, tbh. It's been killing the immersiveness since forever for me. I get that these are mastered studio recordings that took like 156 takes to edit together, but I just can't help but imagine musicians playing while a bunch of shady-looking creepers slowly turn the volume knobs on their instruments to zero(don't ask me how they do that with the drums, that's beyond me). And they still keep playing... Mew.. Why are you still playing.. It's fading out.. Mew... End the song, pls. Mew. Please. Before it fades ou----

How could anyone be disappointed with rows' ending? It could have ended before the steel drums started and I would still be satisfied. It could have ended after the steel drums and I would still be satisfied. They stretched it to a THIRD satisfying ending with the final, catchy ending. Satisfied.

yeah, literally it does mean an old person, but I don't think it means the same here ;-)

"Old dinosaur" - something (or someone? naaaah...) which should be long gone, but somehow still remains alive against your will. You know it well and you've become tired of it, but it's not willing to let you go. It is still haunting you, certainly not making your life any better. It can be some kind of a negative feeling (sadness, fear, frustration, longing, doubts?) or a nagging thought that devours you during a sleepless night. At least that's how I interpret these words in the context of the lyrics ;-)

ooooops, I like those fadeouts :/ I like when songs are a bit ephemeral and when they don't really reach their highest possible peak (which is pretty predictable and boring, in my personal opinion). That's when they begin to live.

Agreed on The Night Believer. It's painful that the section that almost instantly starts fading out is my favorite part of the song. [2]

i don't understand the hate for fadeouts, it's been used everywhere since forever. Maybe it sounds too "volume going down" instead of some more polished fade out bands might do. Anyways coffe break live yay

To each his own :) Only the first listen of this album felt rather strange for me. I feel at home now. One thing that bothers me a lot is how endings of some songs are faded out (The Night Believer, Rows). It breaks my heart, how these gorgeous songs don't have a "proper" ending. Didn't expect it to be like Kites in that regard, but fade out is just a poor excuse of an ending in my books.

Im afraid there are a few outstanding songs on the new album....the rest may never grow..

Witness starts pretty based, then it's structure kinda wanders around places i didn't want it to, and ends. But i think it might be the best song in there.

Okay after looping this for the day I can say that for me, most memorable songs are still the singles they've revealed before the album. I'm head over heels with Water Slides. Water Slides has like the most beautiful chorus I've heard in my life, I'm not even kidding. "Full" version of Satellites is also quite lovely. Aside from that, The Night Believer, My Complications and (holy fuck) Rows are ones that stuck to me the most. Interview The Girls is probably the least memorable of the bunch so far... Out of all Mew releases the sound of this is most similar to... none of them, honestly. Jonas' solo works is probably as close as it gets to the sound of this. And that's not a bad thing in my books. Love the album.

I just received my copy today. You guys might go "Holy fuck Rows", but for me it's all about the Live CD right now. Holy fuck Coffee Break. Not to say album is underwhelming compared to the live CD, but live versions of songs I've listened to hundreds of times are much easier to form an opinion about, rather than something I've listened to just once. Will probably have something more coherent to say about the album after a few more spins. First impression was highly positive though. Not regreting the pre-order at all. :)

Some songs are growing on me. It's not a dissapointment, we just had very high expectations after so many years. I dig it. I can still call em my favourite band

Really though what does it say at the beginning of Silas the Magic Car? I don't think any of the lyrics I've found are right.

Holy fuck Rows [9] The whole album is awesome, certainly far from being "a cold pizza" ;-)
